The role focuses on strategically managing the Corporate Law and Litigation Centre within the Corporate Legal Services (CLS) business unit. This includes overseeing daily operations, leading the team to deliver high-quality legal and litigation services, and ensuring the effective resolution of legal disputes related to audits, material irregularities, suppliers, and other company stakeholders. The role also involves drafting enabling laws and regulations and conducting legal assessments to mitigate organizational risk.Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Function:Developing performance priorities for the centre aligned with the organization's strategy and balanced scorecard through stakeholder consultation.Providing tactical guidance on commercial legal matters and compiling management information on legal activities.Contributing to drafting accountability reports and developing BU balanced scorecard initiatives, ensuring their implementation.Product Management:Providing corporate/litigation advisory services to senior leadership and resolving legal disputes, particularly regarding audits and material irregularities.Monitoring and drafting amendments to the company's enabling laws and regulations.Offering legal advice to governance structures and overseeing the preparation and certification of policies for legal compliance.Managing the resolution of contractual disputes and anticipating legal developments that could impact the company.Stakeholder Management:Building and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment with strategic legal matters.Managing stakeholder engagement by evaluating satisfaction and implementing action plans where necessary.Communicating strategic objectives clearly and continuously engaging with stakeholders to improve service delivery.People Management:Aligning the BU balanced scorecard at the centre level and ensuring strategy alignment.Leading the team, providing motivation, coaching, and mentoring to maximize productivity and developing staff potential.Participating in talent attraction initiatives and managing people-related activities in line with policies and legal requirements.Financial and Operational Management:Developing and managing the centre's budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness and alignment with BU commitments.Overseeing supply chain processes, managing risk, and ensuring compliance with internal processes.Implementing effective business processes and managing additional projects as required.Job RequirementsQualification and Experience:LLB degree required; LLM degree is advantageous.Experience in corporate governance or business sciences is beneficial.Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and statutory requirements.Minimum of 5 years' post-admission experience as a litigator in the High Court of South Africa.Competencies:Emotional MaturityEmpowermentDiversity and InclusionIntegrityAuthenticityPerformance ExcellenceInnovation and Continuous ImprovementAccountabilityCourageous and Ethical LeadershipDesired Skills:Corporate Law and LitigationCorporate GovernanceDesired Work Experience:5 to 10 yearsDesired Qualification Level:Honours
