Who are we? Sanlam Life and Savings (SLS) is focused on serving our retail and corporate clients in South Africa and further developing our strategic advantages in the South African market.Sanlam Life and Savings consists of three clusters - Sanlam Corporate and Sanlam Retail Affluent. The Sanlam Life and Savings Office provides strategic direction, coordination and support to the three clusters, as well as performing governance oversight that includes assurance provided by second line of defense functions in SLS, to enable us to meet our business objectives.
What will you do? Output/Core Tasks of SRS, Glacier and SC modelling team: Development and maintenance of various SRA and SC Prophet models (and related tools) used in the valuation process, solvency calculation and related calculations Review and enhancement of specifications for model changes Rigorous testing of model changes to meet or exceed our clients' needs Model governance and comprehensive documentation Support with the implementation of models into Production environments by delivering quality models on agreed upon dates, engaging with valuation teams should issues be encountered. Peer review of team members' work, checking for adherence to coding standards and consistency across different models. Assistance with ad-hoc tasks and investigations in the SRA and SC Actuarial team Handling of technical queries from Prophet users and assistance in other administrative tasks such as onboarding new users and coordinating upgrading of software/hardware used by the Prophet systems Interacting with the modelling specialists across the Sanlam business and other SRA teams (e.g., Pricing team) to assist with development and coordination on larger multi-model projects. Developing and implementing models for new ventures, including reporting on the monthly results. What will make you successful in this role? Requirements: Qualifications: Nearly or Qualified Actuary Experience and skills: Demonstrated modelling skills, ideally using Prophet software Ability to grasp complex and technical concepts Strong analytical thinking skills Ability to manage a small technical team Ability to work independently and meet deadlines Exemplary planning and organizational skills Superb verbal and written communication skills Ability to critically review specifications, model changes and documentation A positive attitude with a willingness and eagerness to learn Familiarity with handling/analysing data in databases or related programming languages is useful Personal Attributes Business insight - Contributing through others Self-development - Contributing through others Tech savvy - Contributing through others Interpersonal savvy - Contributing through others Build a successful career with us We're all about building strong, lasting relationships with our employees.
