DutiesConduct initial take interviews, needs assessments, and evaluations to determine eligibility for assistance.Provide direction, guidance, management, and supervision of social service cases.Assist Supervisory Social Worker in the development of client case plans.Develop an individual self-sufficiency plan for each general assistance client.Perform case management duties and provide technical assistance to management of an individual's trust fund and assets.Provide technical interpretation and guidance of the Bureau's Social Service Program and IIM accounts.Initiate and/or cooperate with other agency branches and public welfare agencies in helping clients take advantage of local, state, and federal social services programs.Maintain case records, compose letters, and prepare reports and recommendations as required.RequirementsConditions of EmploymentU.S. Citizenship RequiredPreference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (title 25, USC Section 472). General Experience is work in a social services activity or organization that required the ability to conduct interviews, collect and analyze pertinent facts, provide needed information, advice, and practical assistance, and prepare clear concise personal histories and factual reports.OREducation: Four (4) years of successful completion of a full course of study leading to a bachelor's degree.GS-6: I have at least one (1) year of specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-05 in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector). Specialized experience is work experience that provided knowledge of social welfare services program policy and operations to provide child welfare services to clients and/or assist social workers; process client applications, review referrals and service requests; perform program automated data processing functions; and provide records management.OREducation: Education is not a qualification requirement at this grade level.GS-7: I have at least one (1) year of specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-06 in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector). Specialized experience is work that involved the provision of direct social welfare services, managing a client caseload, assisting social workers, providing training and technical assistance to tribal contractors and application of program policy and federal regulations.OREducation: One (1) full academic year of graduate education in social sciences (18 semester hours, 27 quarter hours, or equivalent).GS-8: I have at least 1 year of specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-7 in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector). Specialized experience is work that involved interpreting and applying federal regulations in the Code of Federal Regulation and Bureau's guidelines to client cases; policy letters and human behavior theory to provide specialized services; handled a range of client cases, using considerable independence, but keeps supervisor informed of issues or problems; proposes appropriate changes to service plan.OREducation: Education is not a qualification requirement at this grade level.GS-9: I have at least 1 year of specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-8 in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector). Specialized experience is work that involved applying professional knowledge of the principles and practices of social work; recommending direct services to individuals, families, and groups; and educating or assisting with instruction, training, consultation or advice on social work-related questions and services; and maintaining a formalized case management system which documents the workflow of case services with individual case plans.OREducation: Education is not a qualification requirement at this grade level.All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
