PURPOSE OF ROLE The SHEQ Manager ensures prevention of workplace incidents/accidents and promotes Health, Safety, Environment & Quality awareness among employees. This critical role leads a team of (Safety Officers and Quality Representatives, amongst others) specialists to achieve a behavioural-based Safety & Quality culture on projects and in the organisation, driving best practices and continuous improvement. As a key influencer and change agent, the SHEQ Manager ensures full implementation and compliance with global and local strategies, maintaining excellent SHEQ standards across the business unit. The role collaborates with senior management to implement an effective & sustainable SHEQ policy.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE): Plan, direct, and implement organizational SHEQ programsManage, organise and report on the Industrial Division Safety team.Develop and implement safety policies and procedures compliant with OSHACT & The Mines & Safety ActDesign and conduct training on workplace safety, fire prevention, and handling of hazardous materialsAnalyse industrial accident causes and health hazardsReport on SHEQ performance, compliance, incidents, trends, and issuesManage key safety and environmental projects to achieve Zero HarmDevelop and implement inspection policies, procedures, and schedulesEvaluate health and safety practices and conduct risk assessmentsInvestigate accidents/incidents and implement preventative measuresHandle worker's compensation claims and suggest SHEQ improvementsQuality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC): Supervise Quality Control functions, including inspection schedules and quality records collectionManage, organise and report on the Industrial Division Quality team.Support Project/Construction Manager in client communications for quality mattersAssess implementation of Quality Plan and Quality Control Plans (QCP's)Allocate Quality Control personnel and supervise inspections and documentationEvaluate qualifications of welders, NDT Technicians, and inspection personnelSupport construction roles in subcontractor management and controlParticipate in internal/external audits and coordinate material identification systemsSupervise equipment calibration management and welding/NDT qualification activitiesEvaluate & approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS's)Analyse non-conformities and supervise defect repair inspections
QUALIFICATION Bachelor's degree/Diploma in Environmental Management, Occupational Safety and Health, or related fieldSafety Management Diploma/DegreeRegistration with SACPCMP (advantageous)
EXPERIENCE Minimum 10 years combined experience: 5 years as Safety, Health and Environmental Manager & 5 years as QA/QC ManagerExtensive knowledge of SHEQ systems in heavy industrial environmentsExperience implementing strategic SHEQ frameworks at corporate levelExperience in Industrial Safety and Construction RegulationsExperience in Nuclear Safety Principles and Culture (desirable)Experience in Human Performance monitoring and executionExperience managing SHEQ on large value EPC Projects in Oil, Gas, Power industrial sectors
COMPETENCIES Knowledge: Thorough understanding of construction/installation/maintenance principlesComprehensive knowledge of regulatory and safety governanceIn-depth understanding of QA systems and auditing principlesKnowledge of environmental approval and regulatory requirements for industrial environmentsFamiliarity with project quality plans, contract documents, and project specificationsSkills: Proficiency in computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, IFS, Project Management Collaboration Platforms)Excellent communication skillsStrong technical competence in SHEQ managementAdvanced problem-solving and decision-making abilitiesAbility to develop and review project quality plans and specificationsProficiency in conducting QMS Internal/External auditsCapability to coordinate Test Pack preparation and Final Handover documentationBehaviours: Demonstrates excellent safety behaviour and promotes a positive SHEQ cultureModels and promotes organizational values through effective leadershipActs as an information conduit between management and staff on SHEQ issuesActively promotes teamwork and collaboration across the organizationDisplays high ethical standards, honesty, and integrityShows meticulous attention to detail and works methodicallyDemonstrates reliability and professionalism in all interactionsExhibits foresight and anticipation of future activitiesDisplays assertiveness when addressing SHEQ concernsCommits to continuous learning and improvement in SHEQ practicesShould you not hear from us within 21 days of the closing of the advert, kindly regard your application to have been unsuccessful.
