Monitor and control plant tasks and activities according to procedure or instruction. Conduct and comply with quality task requirements. Collection and analysis of samples according to quality standards and procedures. Attend to housekeeping duties. Comply with safety procedures and guidelines (Occupational Health and Safety Act, 85 of 1993). Assist and report with work in progress and completion of specialized tasks, activities associated with installation, maintenance and repair of Waste Water treatment plants and/or Bulk networks. Clean and store equipment and tools. Assist with handling of materials and chemicals. Participate in operational discussions and meetings. Execute tasks as described in the work plan aligned with the Operating and Maintenance manual.Job Authority: OPERATIONS: The post is required to adjust the purification processes when test results indicate that the quality does not comply with the prescribed standards. The post is authorized to take action and enforce regulations when non-conformity or breach of OSHACT (Occupational Health and Safety Act, 85 of 1993) and guidelines controlling the facility and machinery or safe work practices is concerned. The post is required to ensure that the treatment plant is operating for such period as to keep up with the demand and water requirements with respect to optimal chemical and electricity usage.Duties of the Post:Housekeeping and General tasks (Physical activities)Maintaining, cleaning buildings and equipment with cleaning materials (incl. walkways, floors, windows, bathrooms, kitchens, dewatering, chemical make-up).Inspect and clean inlet manholes with hand tools (e.g., removal of blockages, debris, plastics, rags, solids).Inspect and clean screens and/or channels with hand tools (e.g., flocculation and sludge channels, removal of grit, sludge, blockages, debris, plastics, rags, solids).Transfer and handle grass, cuttings, grit, debris, and waste materials (e.g., from container e.g., wheelie bin to skips).Inspect and clean storm water drainage systems (e.g., gutters, sludge channel, manholes, screen, and pumps with hand tools, high-pressure washer, brine outlets).Inspect and clean channels, weirs, baffles, and walls using high-pressure hose, rake, and broom (e.g., sedimentation and settling channels, DAF, and membrane systems).Inspect and clean clarifier tanks using high-pressure hose, rake, and broom (e.g., sedimentation and settling tanks, DAF, and membrane systems).Assist with first line maintenance and report other maintenance requirements (e.g., cleaning out of pumps, bulb replacement, window replacement, pipe fittings, seals).Keep filters and strainers clean by hand or tools (e.g., remove sediment/rags from equipment and filter surface, report malfunctioning of equipment including backwashing of filter).Wash and hose down areas, equipment, and tools with hose and scrubber (e.g., especially inlet work, dewatering, and chemical make-up areas).General terrain tasks with hand tools (e.g., gardening, mowing the lawn, pruning trees, cutting beds, drying beds).Chemical stacking and storage by hand (e.g., assisting with offloading of chemical deliveries and stock keeping).Chemical change-over and/or make-up when required to top up according to procedure and instruction (e.g., change-over of duty and reserve tanks, transfer of chemicals from storage, bag, or polycan according/under instruction).Dosing control adjustments according to procedure (e.g., chlorination).Maintain and drive company vehicle for company activities (e.g., cleaning, washing, collection, and sample deliveries).
