Star Merchant has an exciting opportunity available for a Senior Buyer to be based in Umhlanga, Durban. The incumbent will be responsible for the procurement of a wide variety of commodities, materials, supplies, equipment, and services for the entity, many of which are highly technical and require the application of complex procurement standards and procedures, including negotiation. The buyer will buy and arrange payment of products and attain services: at the right price; from the right supplier; in the right quantities; for delivery at the right lead time and at the right specifications that meet the company's needs. Be cognisant of conflict of interests, bribery and kickbacks. Ensure achievement of company's strategic objectives, goal plans and targets. Comply with all policies and procedures and strict adherence to internal controls. Ensure daily, weekly and monthly reporting is done accurately and timeously and contains appropriate content to enable effective decision making.
Minimum requirements:
3 - 5 years' experience within a buying-related role.
Knowledge of the procurement procedures.
Must have planning and analytical skills.
Leadership experience.
Must have a driver's license.

Degree/diploma in Supply Chain.

Source lowest prices, source quality products, source appropriate lead times.
Specific focus on branded products for marketing and promotional purposes.
Bring innovative import ideas to the buying team and engage with the sales/stock control team regarding market demands.
Source BEE empowered suppliers that have a BEE score as predetermined by Star Merchants BEE strategy.
Ensure customer approves all artwork prior to finalizing the order.
Effective management of buying orders to meet customer orders timeously.
Ensure stock that is ordered has maximum shelf life.
Engage suppliers who can deliver to Star Merchants various warehouses to reduce transport costs.
Prepare and process purchase orders.
Resolve problems arising from the purchase of goods and services.
Maintain a good working relationship with the stock control department.
Ensure timely account payments to ensure delivery/collection is made on time.
Ensure signed supplier agreements are in place.
Negotiate favorable supplier terms.
Implement and manage stock holding levels with suppliers.
Monitor supplier pricing and update regularly.
Physically accept sensitive stock items at the warehouse.
Establish, implement, and monitor supplier incidents/defaults.
Monitor market trends to identify new products/services.
Research and evaluate areas of opportunity and reduce costs where possible.
Deliver briefs, updates, and reports as required.
Develop creative and innovative procurement processes.
Provide guidance and support to junior members of the purchasing team.

Guide, direct, and supervise junior buyers.
