Spaces & Experiences operates undergraduate and graduate student housing on the St. George campus. These include Graduate House, Chestnut Residence, and Knox Residence with a new residence currently in development: Oak House. The S&E Residence team endeavours to provide a residence experience that fosters community engagement, celebrates diversity, and keeps equity and inclusion at the forefront of our decision making and approach. With this in mind, our goal is to offer students the opportunity to live in an environment that provides programming, services, and interactions that positively contribute to their personal growth and student success during their time at the University of Toronto.

Chestnut Residence at the University of Toronto is home to nearly 1134 students from all University of Toronto faculties and colleges. The residence offers spacious rooms, high quality meals, and a vibrant residence life program. Amenities include large common areas and study spaces, a fitness facility, housekeeping services, high speed internet, local telephone, cable TV and a residence dining program designed by an award-winning chef.

Your opportunity:
Reporting to the Associate Dean, Residence Life, the Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) is one of 2 live-in positions that coordinates and monitors student life in Chestnut Residence in accordance with the mission and policies of the residence and the University of Toronto. The RLCs are responsible for assisting the Associate Dean, Residence Life in developing and sustaining a supportive, inclusive and accepting living community for all students in the Chestnut Residence. The RLCs work closely together and with the Dean of Residence & Director of Student Life, Associate Dean, Residence Life, and the Assistant to the Dean, Residence Life (ADRL) to select, train and supervise the Residence Dons throughout the academic and summer terms. Each RLC is directly responsible for approximately 11 Dons, including 1 Lead Don.

The RLCs promote community development and the academic success and personal growth of individual residents through program implementation, policy development, residential governance and the advising and daily involvement with students. As well, the RLCs will liaise with the Residence Office to facilitate the operational and maintenance systems necessary to implement these programs.

Your responsibilities will include: Implementing plans and process improvements for program and service activitiesAdvising students on the interpretation of rules and regulations regarding the use of space and organizing events on campusDetermining logistical details and activities for events and/or programmingAdvising students on personal and academic issues by probing and providing a range of options and possible consequencesDeveloping content for marketing and/or promotional materialsCoordinating staff recruitment activities with contactsDirecting the activities of casual staffCoaching residence student staff on handling personal and non-personal complaintsEssential Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.Minimum two (2) years experience living and working in a university residence setting, either in a similar position or as a Senior Residence Don/Lead Don.Experience in counselling, programming and discipline in an undergraduate residence community.Word-processing and experience within a PC environment.Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.Proven leadership, supervisory and problem-solving skills.Demonstrated conflict resolution skills.Comfortable working in an unpredictable environment both independently and as part of a team of diverse individuals.Must have an interest in students who come from a diverse range of backgrounds.Ability to exercise creativity in developing and improving programs, policies and staff development.Assets (Nonessential): Knowledge of the StarRez and/or other residence management systems is an asset.To be successful in this role you will be: ResponsibleTeam playerClosing Date: 08/30/2024, 11:59PM ET
