PRIME PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The Quality Control Manager is responsible for ensuring that the products and services produced by the Company meet all relevant quality standards and regulations and meet the legislative requirements applicable to the industry. This role will work with a team of other professionals to ensure that every product meets specific quality standards before it is released into the marketplace.
REPORTING: This position will report to the Packhouse Manager.
KEY RESULT AREAS (JOB REQUIREMENTS) Plan, assign and direct work of Quality and Compliance team members. Evaluate quality of product pre and post packaging according to client quality requirements. Provide quality control data for evaluation to management. Develop a plan of action to correct any identified deficiencies in quality control and compliance. Consult with suppliers (growers and exporter) to review their quality control procedures to ensure the packhouse meets the required standards. Review customer complaints and provide resolution where required. Recommend changes to processes or procedures that could negatively affect product quality and compliance. Establish and enforce policies and procedures related to quality assurance, quality control, and legislative compliance. Conduct tests to ensure that products meet customer requirements or government regulations. Manage residue tests and results. Manage the packhouse DALRRD special market registration and verification. Oversee the food safety, quality, and hygiene systems effectiveness through regular internal and external audits. Complete relevant paperwork and reporting efficiently and accurately. Prepare, implement, oversee and maintain the following compliance audits, standards, and procedures on a yearly basis: BRC (issue 9) Global GAP Chain of Custody GMP Client specific packhouse audits Implement and maintain the SIZA ethical audit and SAQ. Manage E-Cert, Phytclean and PPECB regulations to ensure compliance with the regulations. Perform ad hoc duties as assigned by Management. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Grade 12 (Essential) Tertiary qualification in Agriculture (Advantageous) Minimum 5 years' experience in a quality control and compliance management system Global standard of Food safety, BRCGS issue 9 and Global GAP qualification certification and experience In-depth knowledge of the industry's standards and regulations Citrus and packhouse experience is advantageous KEY COMPETENCIES REQUIRED Ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining composure; Ability to be assertive while at the same time maintaining a high level of respect; Ability to work extended hours where required; High attention to detail; Communicate in a professional manner with people at all levels; Deadline driven; Innovative thinker; Professional, punctual and organized; Self-motivated and able to work independently; Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks efficiently; Computer literate (MS Office); Valid RSA driver's license.
