We are looking to recruit a committed, dynamic, self-motivated and goal driven individual in Cape Town.
The successful candidate will report to the Parliamentary Operations Director.Responsibilities:Managing a team of parliamentary researchers to provide members of the DA parliamentary caucus with quality research and procedural support in Parliament that effectively drives strategic issues.Conducting quality and strategic legislation research and analysis in Parliament.Managing the functioning of the Parliamentary Research Unit.Minimum requirements:Relevant Bachelor's degree.Postgraduate degree advantageous.Prior research experience highly advantageous.Relevant staff management experience, including on project basis or completion of the Party's Management Readiness Programme (applicable to internal candidates).3 years' experience working in a national or provincial legislature, government or legal practice.Computer literacy, particularly MS Office Suite.Valid driver's licence and access to an insured vehicle for occasional use.Skills:Time management skills.Written and verbal communication.Administration and organisation.Team management skills.Conflict management.Abilities:Read, understand and interpret legislation as well as the rules of Parliament.Demonstrate sound knowledge of legislative processes, the role and function of Parliament within a constitutional democracy, as well as the principles, policies, and ideology of the DA.Do quality control over basic arithmetical calculations.Understand scientific and academic articles within relevant fields.Proactively lead a team and plan its functions.Effectively exercise election-related skills and lead a team in this regard.Work well under pressure.Work independently.Apply sound judgement.Knowledge and commitment:Knowledge of the political and legislative framework and dynamics.Knowledge of the DA and liberal philosophy.Strong political acumen and understanding of the national landscape.Understanding of political issue-driving strategies.Commitment to the principles, policies and programme of action of the Democratic Alliance.Willingness to go the extra mile, which may include working long and irregular hours, weekends, and public holidays where necessary.To apply online please click here.Closing date: 19 January 2025
