Your opportunity:
The Research Assistant - Invasive Species Phragmites will assist with the research on the biological control of introduced Phragmites (Phragmites australis ssp. australis). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to undertake field work and support a team of research associates, scientists, and land managers working to implement Phragmites biological control across southern Ontario.
Your responsibilities will include: Following rules and procedural instructions when administering research studiesRecording and tabulating experiment resultsProviding some care to prevent physical or emotional injury or harmProviding orientation to others on work procedures and practicesEssential Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.One (1) year of experience supporting research by organizing materials and recording experiment resultsExperience assisting research in entomology/ecology/invasion scienceExperience following rules and procedural instructions when administering research studiesExperience providing orientation to others on work procedures and practicesExperience providing some care to prevent physical or emotional injury or harmExperience generating reports and coding quantitative dataProficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and OutlookExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities and occasional competing deadlinesProven ability to deal with people in a tactful and effective mannerExcellent organizational and time management skillsAbility to work occasional weekends for field work and insect/plant rearingAssets (Nonessential): Experience with the biology and ecology of invasive plants of Ontario, specifically common reed, Phragmites australis ssp. australisTo be successful in this role you will be: Multi-taskerOrganizedProceduralResourcefulTeam playerClosing Date: 01/10/2025, 11:59 PM ET
