Overview:To plan, control, lead & manage the full plant Logistics function to achieve company objectives. The position reports to the Plant Manager, and has the relevant reportees in line with the position, including amongst others: Logistics Buyers, Material Planner Expeditors, Invoicing Clerks, Despatch Clerks, Receiving Clerk, Material Handlers, Storemen, Forklift drivers, etc. Minimum requirements:Bachelor's Degree / BTech in Supply Chain Management / Logistics or similar5+ years working experience in Supply Chain in Automotive manufacturing2+ years' experience in a managerial roleExperience in Automotive Manufacturing Responsibilities:Logistics Strategy:Assist with the development of the logistics strategic plan (Supply Chain) and ensure implementation.Provide strategic and change leadership to the logistic function and teams. Logistics Planning:Plan Raw Material requirements on a current and forecast basic to meet production demand.Manage item master data (Order multiples, planning periods, lead times, etc.) in order to optimise stock holding. Logistics Management:Manage Logistics operationsMonitor engineering changes and plan run-in and run-out programmesManage Raw material and finished product stocksProcess and control logistics documentation. Continuous ImprovementBenchmark logistics processes against best practicesKeep up to date with latest trends/ developments in Logistics management and adopt best practicesIdentify opportunities for process/system improvementsImplement best business practices and principlesParticipate in productivity improvement initiatives with suppliers Reporting:Analyse and interpret Logistics reports and statistical data SHE:Conduct continuous Risk Assessments in the workplace as it pertains to LogisticsIdentify & address workplace hazards, risks and critical safety issues in the workplaceApply safety, health and environment practices and legal requirements when working on or with plant machines, vehicles and equipment Quality Management System:Manage and implement the Logistics Quality Assurance systemsImprove employees' awareness within the department of Quality Targets and ObjectivesNotify the Quality Department of any quality non-conformances which may lead to Customer complaints (Stock damage, packaging, etc.) Policies and Procedures:Initiate, draft, approve and adhere to all Logistics Policies, Procedures, Protocols, Work Instructions, Codes of Practice, etc. Financial Management:Provide input into the budget processMonitor performance against budget (expense controls, variances, etc.)Initiate requests for CAPEX/Disposal/Transfers, if requiredParticipate in the Audit processAdhere to Financial Policies and ProceduresProtect company assets (working capital & fixed assets)Detect and prevent fraudPromote good Corporate Governance Customer Relations:Manage relationships with internal/external customersIdentify opportunities for improvements and make recommendations Supplier Relations:Manage relationships with key suppliers (Transport, etc.)Conduct Supplier audits (with Procurement)Notify the Supplier of non-conformances and initiate corrective actions People Management:Ensure an enabling climate/cultureManage individual, team and departmental performance to achieve organisational objectivesManage labour stability and complement in line with budgetParticipate in the implementation and utilisation of equity related processesAchieve HDSA/Female targets for the DepartmentObtain approval for and recruit and select employees in the area of responsibilityPlan, organise and monitor work in own area of responsibilityCompile and update Performance Contracts and Individual Development Plans and facilitate individual career path planningDetermine the training needs of the DepartmentConduct Performance Reviews and manage sub-standard performanceCoach and counsel people to ensure improved performance levelsEnsure discipline is maintained in department (absenteeism, lateness, overtime, misconduct, etc.)Resolve grievances and disputes Competencies / Knowledge:MS OfficeIATF 16949 standards and requirementsAdvanced knowledge of Supply Chain ManagementQuality (ISO)Operating computer systemsApply strategic road transport management principlesKnowledge of transport industry in South AfricaFunctional knowledgeBusiness expertiseLeadershipProblem solvingInterpersonal skills
