Preference will be given to applications with sufficient background in Indigenous Knowledge Systems. The targeted applicants must have at least 70%, preferably a female, black South African, Coloured, or Indian candidates. nGAP aims to improve the academic staffing capacity of South African universities and contribute to the transformation of the academic staff profile. nGAP employees will participate in a six-year developmental programme and are expected to register for and complete their doctoral studies, participate in the DHET's Staffing South Africa's Universities Development Programme, and work under the supervision of an appointed mentor.APPLICANTS SHOULD HAVE:A MASTER'S DEGREE WITH AN ACADEMIC AVERAGE OF 70% FOR THE MASTER'S DEGREE. PROOF OF RESULTS MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE APPLICATION.Duties & ResponsibilitiesPURPOSE OF THE POSITIONThe nGAP position at lecturer level will be part of the academic staff at the IKS Centre and will teach modules in the BIKS programme. The lecturer will be responsible for teaching modules in the Indigenous Science and Innovation Stream, conducting research in IKS, and participating in community engagement.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Teaching of modules in Indigenous Knowledge Systems.Participation in development activities as part of the SSAU-Development Programme (SSAU-DP).Desired Experience & QualificationA master's degree (NQF level 9) in Indigenous Knowledge Systems with an average of 70% or above.A minimum of three (3) years' experience in teaching Indigenous Knowledge Systems.A minimum of one (1) year' research development and management experience.A minimum of one (1) year' community engagement experience.Applicants must be SA citizens and 40 years or younger of age.KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:Ability to develop study materials and teach modules using indigenous pedagogies.Ability to engage with indigenous knowledge holders and communities.Knowledge of indigenous research methodologies and worldviews.Effective communication and computer skills for teaching and research dissemination.Ability to design, execute, and publish research findings in Indigenous Knowledge Systems.KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:Ability to work in a team and under pressure.Ability to engage with indigenous communities and knowledge holders.Conflict resolution, interpersonal skills, and emotional intelligence.REMUNERATIONThe annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.ENQUIRIES REGARDING JOB CONTENT: Dr. Motheo Koitsiwe, Tel No: 018 389-2157ENQUIRIES REGARDING RECRUITMENT PROCESS: Ms. Innocentia Mphuthi, Tel No: 018 389-2457CLOSING DATE: 26 April 2024COMMENCEMENT OF DUTIES: As soon as possibleKindly take note: applications may only be submitted online through the official NWU vacancy website.
