Description: TERM – Six (6) Months About us: The Faculty of Law is one of the oldest professional faculties at the University of Toronto. Today, it is one of the world's great law schools. The Faculty's rich academic programs are complemented by its many legal clinics and public interest programs. The Faculty of Law is housed in the elegant, state-of-the-art Jackman Law Building, alongside two historic buildings, Flavelle House and Falconer Hall, on the St. George Campus in downtown Toronto.
Your opportunity: The Law in Action Within Schools (LAWS) program is an innovative and collaborative law-themed high school program aimed at students, facing personal and systemic barriers to success, who are interested in the law. Founded in 2005, LAWS offers a cross-curricular exposure to legal and justice issues and provides supportive programming designed to encourage students to access postsecondary studies. LAWS is a partnership between the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and Osgoode Hall Law School at York University, and is delivered in the Toronto District School Board high schools.
Under the direction of the Director, LAWS Program, the LAWS Coordinator supports and coordinates program activities and operations.
Your responsibilities will include: Building partner networks with external agencies whose cooperation is important to the UniversityLeading seminars and/or workshopsProducing promotional and outreach materialsConducting detailed analysis and evaluation to inform program planning activitiesMaintaining information on digital platforms and/or printed materialsDetermining logistical details and activities for events and/or programmingDirecting the work of volunteers in defined activitiesServing as a resource to others by providing (non-supervisory) job-related guidanceEssential Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.Minimum four (4) years' experience coordinating tasks for projects and other initiatives in an academic or public interest or legal setting.Experience working with youth, particularly in the education sector and/or community outreach programs.Demonstrated experience developing and facilitating educational workshopsExperience producing promotional and outreach materials including program newslettersFamiliarity with current legal issues and trends in the practice of law.Knowledge and understanding of the legal community and profession.Strong organizational and time management skills.Ability to manage priorities and competing deadlines.Willingness to work on-site at partner high schools.Demonstrated strong communication skills both written and verbal.Excellent presentation skills.Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels including teachers, guidance counselors, high school students, legal professionals, academics, law students, alumni, etc.Interest in, and commitment to, community outreach and access to justice initiatives.Assets (Nonessential): JD would be considered a desirable asset.To be successful in this role you will be: ApproachableMulti-taskerOrganizedPossess a positive attitudeSelf-directedTactfulNote: This is a six (6) month term position.  Closing Date: 08/23/2024, 11:59PM ET

USW Pay Band 12 — $79,874. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $102,147. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
