Junior Operations Supervisor

PURPOSE
To supervise the execution of the contractual activities on deposition and remining projects while upholding the company standard, assisting in planning activities, organising resources, leading people, and controlling risks, costs, and deviations to ensure the successful achievement of the mining or deposition plan in respect of quality, productivity, efficiency, and financial requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Operate Site

Allocate and schedule resources (Plant/Materials/Labour). Identify risks associated with resources and take preventative measures.
Execute deposition or mining plan as per the operating procedure and Code of Practice for the Tailings Storage Facility.
Ensure handover on activities or shifts is properly done and that daily or shift production targets are met.
Record and report to Superintendent / Senior Superintendent on daily progress or events.
Supervise the sub-contractors or plant hire works and report on status and progress.
Report on resources efficiencies.
Uphold the company standards and policy to maintain high quality of service.

Maintain Safety

Always ensure proper housekeeping and use of appropriate PPE to prevent staff injuries and other incidents.
Report and assist in formulating corrective measures against all substandard acts and conditions.
Ensure that risk assessments are conducted prior to all activities.
Conduct time and attendance on all staff.
Conduct Planned Task and observation on a daily basis.

Financial and Cost Control

Supervise and report availability and utilization of people and machinery (Including mobile plant).
Control the material and equipment issue and maintain proof of issuing.
Control and maintain overtime within the requirements and roster.

Supervise Staff

Coach the staff to create knowledge and experience.
Ensure that company's disciplinary and grievance policies and procedures are properly applied to your sub-ordinates.
Motivate staff to achieve buy-in on the decisions made and improve productivity and efficiency.
Communicate performance standards to your sub-ordinate.
Track and improve performance/production against targets.
Correct poor performance through counselling, coaching, and discipline.

Marketing and Client Relationship Management (CRM)

Promote the image of the company by maintaining discipline at all times.
Build and promote a good relationship with client representatives.
Record and communicate all client instructions and requirements on a daily basis with the Superintendent.
Attend all client meetings as requested or instructed by the Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS

Grade 12
Supervisory course
Operational Skills Programme (Slimes Reclamation/Tailings Dam Operations)

EXPERIENCE

2-3 years experience in operations
1 year experience as a Team Leader

SKILLS, QUALITIES and ABILITIES REQUIRED

Planning, organising, leading and controlling skills.
Leadership skills.
Communication and facilitation skills (Ability to communicate in English).
Operational skills.
Problem solving skills.
Good interpersonal skills.
Coaching skills.
Driving skills backed by a valid driver's license.
