The Dalla Lana School of Public Health is a Faculty of the University of Toronto that originated as one of the Schools of Hygiene begun by the Rockefeller Foundation in 1927.
The School, which played a critical role in the COVID-19 pandemic response, went through a dramatic renaissance after the 2003 SARS crisis and it is now the largest public health school in Canada, with more than 850 faculty, 1,000 students, and research and training partnerships with institutions throughout Toronto and the world.
With $76 million in research funding per year, including more than $31.5 million held at DLSPH, the School contributes to improving population health and health policy and health systems through discoveries and innovation in data science and AI, maternal, child and reproductive health, climate change, implementation and improvement sciences, preventable disease through vaccines and prevention, comparative health policy, sustainable and equitable health systems, global and Indigenous health, among many other areas.
Your opportunity:
The research project is supporting Mino-Bimaadizi - a national network for ending Indigenous illness and promoting Indigenous mental health and healing.
This network aims to end mental health problems by using Indigenous knowledge in health care interventions, service, and policy.
The goal is to work towards improving the health outcomes of Indigenous populations by creating a national database of information about Indigenous mental health and wellness in decolonizing mental health systems curriculum, program, and policy.
As Indigenous Research Officer, you will be part of a regional team of researchers that focuses on Indigenous mental health while managing key partnerships and collaborations.
You will advise on the research project design, implement research methods and analyze data to meet study objectives while operating within an Indigenous knowledge framework.
Your excellent project management, analytical, and data management experience will enhance the development of this project.
Your responsibilities will include: Creating and posting adverts to recruit community partners and study participantsPerforming mixed methods data analyses including collecting qualitative (narrative interviews) and quantitative data (online surveys)Coordinating study activities including monitoring study timelines, maintaining a recruitment tracking database with detailed notes, reporting weekly progressPreparing Research Ethics Board protocol submissions and Data Access AgreementsAssisting in the preparation of Indigenous knowledge translation activities (preparing reports, formatting manuscripts, conference presentation materials and stakeholder documents)Scheduling and participating in team meetings, including writing minutesMonitoring accounts for the projectEssential Qualifications: Master's degree in public health, community development, mental health, indigenous studies or related disciplines, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experienceMinimum three (3) years of relevant research work experience, including experience working with Indigenous community partners and applying Indigenous research methodologies, data collection, data management and analysisDemonstrated experience managing capacity-building, research and knowledge translation projects that require collaboration with diverse project partnersDemonstrated project management and research knowledge, experience and methodologies in relation to Indigenous community projectsDemonstrated experience working and collaborating with Indigenous leaders, communities, and/or organizationsExperience in database management, quality control, qualitative and/or quantitative analysis with an emphasis on Indigenous ethicsExperience and proficiency with organizing data, meetings, and minute-takingExperience with submitting Research Ethics Boards and grant applicationsExperience with data analysis and management software (nVivo, Qualtrics, etc.)

USW Pay Band 11 -- $75,223.
with an annual step progression to a maximum of $96,196.
