This career opportunity is available at Santam's Corporate Services in the Financial Management department. The role is based in Bellville, Cape Town.
The Group Financial Accountant will be part of the statutory reporting and IFRS technical function of the Santam group.
You will:
Prepare consolidated and stand-alone IFRS-compliant annual financial statements.Prepare IFRS technical memos dealing with M&A transactions, general accounting, and new IFRS standards.Present IFRS training.Interact regularly with the external auditors.Assist with ad hoc tasks within Group Reporting team.What will make you successful in this role?An interest in both routine and non-routine tasks.Ability to reperform working papers with minimal coaching.Strict adherence to deadlines.Appreciation for even the simplest procedures being important.Willing to invest personal time.Ability to navigate several accounting systems and dig for information yourself.Confidence to present training.Advanced IFRS technical knowledge.Qualification and ExperienceCA (SA).Minimum 3 years financial services experience post articles; experience in the insurance industry would be highly recommended.Extensive financial accounting experience in complex technical environments, including consolidation and group reporting experience.Knowledge and SkillsComprehensive and extensive knowledge of IFRS, including insurance accounting.Insurance Act, Companies ActTax knowledgeComputer literate (Advanced Excel)Knowledge of and experience with Hyperion Financial Management or similar consolidation systems would be highly recommended.Strong numeracy and analytical skillsResults orientated and deadline drivenCapacity to operate in a high-pressure environmentCritical thinking skills and an eye for detailProblem-solvingStrong capability for research of a technical natureAbility to work with diverse stakeholdersCore CompetenciesBeing resilient - Contributing through othersCollaborates - Contributing through othersCultivates innovation - Contributing through othersCustomer focus - Contributing through othersDrives results - Contributing through othersAbout The CompanySantam is the market leader in the general insurance industry in Southern Africa.
