Job title: General ManagerReports to: SAILI boardEmployment type: Part-time (4 hours per day, 5 days a week)Location: Hybrid (the team works from the office in Pinelands 2 days a week and works from home 3 days a week)Salary: ~R50,000 per monthAbout SAILI EducationFor over 20 years, the South African Improved Learner Initiative (SAILI), a nonprofit organisation, has implemented one of the most successful maths and science scholarship programmes in South Africa, with 96% of scholars participating in tertiary education opportunities and all of them obtaining meaningful work. SAILI has two major strategies to drive meaningful educational change and redress the inequalities in South Africa's education system:Directing academic talent into the effective parts of our school system.Improving the core of the public education system using sustainable techniques.SAILI's scholarship programme helps high-ability students access high-quality education in high-performing, low-fee public schools. In 2023, SAILI incubated Huddle, whose mission is to help address South Africa's education crisis by making rigorous and joyful teaching and learning accessible to all through scalable blended classrooms.Job overviewAre you a seasoned leader with a passion for expanding educational opportunities? Your leadership will be pivotal in refining our fundraising strategy, optimising organisational structure, and ensuring financial sustainability. You'll manage donor relations, support effective governance, and drive the expansion of our scholarship program to reach even more deserving students. With your expertise, SAILI will continue to grow and empower the next generation of learners across South Africa.If you're ready to lead an organisation with a legacy of excellence and have the skills to extend our reach, we invite you to join us in making an even greater impact.ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities may include but are not limited to:Strategic PlanningDevelop and implement operational strategies aligned with the company's overall goals and objectives.Programme managementBe accountable for the fulfilment of SAILI's mission, strategy and delivery of the agreed programmes in a manner which is efficient, effective and consistent with the values of the organisation. SAILI core programmes include:Scholarship ProgrammeExpand the Scholarship programme through additional fundraising.Provide strategic leadership to the Head of Scholarships.Oversee the scholarship programme budget.Ensure that learner welfare is maintained and all are offered all the possible pathways to excel.Blended Learning Programme in no fee and low fee schools – Huddle InterfaceBe the point person in SAILI for Huddle and stay informed about progress, achievement of milestones and rate of implementation in no fee/low fee public schools.Evaluate Huddle's results on a termly basis, based on agreed internal KPI's.Prepare relevant documents for annual internal Fee Reviews between SAILI and Huddle (as governed by the SLA) and quarterly adjustments.Fundraising, Donor Relations and Grant ManagementRefine the fundraising strategy.Identify and secure new sources of scholarship funding together with Head of Scholarships.Develop and write grant proposals for new funders.Raise funds for the ongoing operation and success of SAILI.Raise funds for Huddle with the help of Huddle CEO.Manage funder relationships with existing funders for both Scholarships and Huddle.Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records of all grant payments, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and accounting standards.Compile grant reports according to frequency required by donors, and ensure compliance with grant term.Organisational DevelopmentDefine / refine organisational capacity needs and organisational structure.Optimise technology and infrastructure to support programme work.Ensure the Board is able to function effectively and the Constitution is met.Ensure that governance needs are supported in a manner that enables an effective and supportive governance system.Develop action plans (at times in coordination with the Board) to fulfil milestones along SAILI's strategy roadmap.Human Resources ManagementOversee the implementation of human resource policies, including fair remuneration, performance reviews and professional development.Finance Management and budgetingBe accountable to the board for the financial management of the company.Use financial modelling to set a 5 year strategy roadmap.Use appropriate tools to manage cash flow and maximise interest.Manage costs against budget.Liaise with accountants and auditors regarding financial records and audit.Prepare quarterly financial updates for the Board.How to apply:Click apply via LinkedIn or email your CV to ******
