Our mandate now spans a wide range of modern-day applications in professional practice, encompassing the built environment and its infrastructure, transportation engineering and planning, structural engineering, environmental engineering, mining, and geomechanics.Your opportunity:The Financial and Research Officer is an integral member of a team of financial service professionals who work together to achieve excellent financial services in the Department of Civil & Mineral Engineering. Reporting to the Director, Administration & Finance, the Finance Officer, Research will support research grant administration by processing FIS documents, including accounts payable/receivable, procurement, cash deposit, preparing reports, ensuring that granting agency policies and regulations are adhered to, advising principal investigators on budget allocations, and ensuring that funds are spent in accordance with the grant application.Your responsibilities will include:Monitoring, recording, reconciling and/or reporting on funding accounts for grants and contracts.Reconciling accounts and identifying and resolving individual financial discrepancies.Processing accounts receivable and payable according to the University Guide to Financial Management.Liaising with internal and external contacts to facilitate purchasing and/or procurement processes.Keeping well-informed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements.Processing expense reimbursements and collecting audit information.Analyzing information and making recommendations to inform budgetary decision making.Keeping well-informed on funding opportunities and resources, application policies/procedures and key deadlines.Essential Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.Minimum three (3) years of related experience with financial analysis and reporting, preferably in an environment with a strong research focus.Experience administering research grants.Experience with Financial Information System (FIS) and Research Information System.Demonstrated familiarity with granting agency policies and funding guidelines.Ability to accurately interpret and apply guidelines, procedures, and regulations in a variety of situations.Excellent analytical, problem solving, and numerical competency.Highly proficient computer skills, including: MS Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Database Management, Financial Information System or similar Financial Software Database.Excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to communicate complex financial procedures to a range of audiences with minimal to professional financial knowledge.Strong business acumen; demonstrated integrity and commitment to confidentiality.Capacity to manage a wide variety of tasks simultaneously and to prioritize effectively.Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and work environment.Assets (Nonessential):Progression through a recognized accounting program (e.g. CPA).Minimum of 1 year experience administering research grants.To be successful in this role you will be:Closing Date: 09/04/2024, 11:59PM ETEmployee Group: USWAppointment Type: Budget - TermSchedule: Full-TimePay Scale Group & Hiring Zone: USW Pay Band 11 -- $75,223 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $96,196.
