We are currently looking for a Chief Safety Officer. This is a 12-month contract position based in Middelburg Mpumalanga.Minimum Requirements:Relevant Degree or DiplomaCOMSOC 1&2SAMTRACMust have at least 3 years of experience as a chief safety officer in the mining environmentMust be able to carry a legal appointmentMust be from the Middelburg areaJob Description:Direct every accident or occurrence mentioned in regulation 25.1 (c), (d) and (e) or 25.6 to a safety officer for investigation;Transmit a copy of the report on the relevant accident or occurrence to the manager within three days after an inquiry has been conducted;Furnish copies to the director concerned if requested by the Principal Inspector of Mines;Record every accident in which any employee has been injured or has become ill to such a degree that it resulted in the loss of at least one shift;Identify working places and machinery that may represent critical areas regarding safety and health;Ensure that applicable requirements relating to the safety and health of employees provide sufficient protection;Ensure all employees are properly trained regarding applicable requirements;Ensure that a safety officer inspects working places and machinery at intervals determined by the chief safety officer or Principal Inspector of Mines, not exceeding 30 days;Inspect underground working places and machinery at intervals not exceeding 45 days;Inspect other working places and machinery at intervals not exceeding 90 days;Examine and countersign entries made in the relevant book not later than the first working day following the day on which such entries were made;Report any urgent matters to the mine overseer, engineer, or person in charge;Transmit a written report to the manager within 15 days of the end of each month specifying the number of accidents, basic causes, failures to comply with applicable requirements, threats to safety or health, and steps taken to avert threats;Hold a meeting with all safety officers under his control at least once every three months.
