Role description
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a key executive position within our clients businessand plays a crucial role inoverseeing the day-to-day operations and ensuring the efficient functioning of the organisation. As the COO, youwill be part of and work closely with the executive team to develop and implement the relevant strategies andprocesses aligned with the overall goals and objectives. Your primary responsibilities will be to ensuresoundness for all functions reporting to you, optimise processes, manage resources, continuous improvement,governance, assist with company growth and mitigate risks. Your leadership, strategic vision and strong operationsexperience combined with business acumen will be essential in driving the business'sgrowth, improving operationalefficiency and fostering a collaborative work environment. As COO, you will play a critical role in the smoothfunctioning and growth of the company. Your strategic leadership and related experience will contributesignificantly to achieving our objectives and maintaining a competitive edge in the market.
Primary responsibilities
As COO, you will play a critical role in overseeing inter alia the following functions: Delivery; Risk management;PMO; Finance and Human Resources of the Buiness. You will work closely with the executive team toimplement business strategies and ensure operational efficiency. Your primary responsibilities will be to ensuresoundness for all functions reporting to you, optimise processes, manage resources, continuous improvement,governance and mitigate risks. Your responsibilities inter alia will include:
Operations strategy and execution:
o Develop and implement operational strategies that align with the Companiesmission andbusiness objectives.o Oversee daily operations of the company, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in allprocesses.o Identify and address operational challenges, ensuring sustainable and scalable businessoperations. Process optimisation: Identify areas for improvement and streamline operational processes toenhance efficiency and productivity.
Leadership and management:
o Lead and mentor a high-performing operations team, fostering a culture of excellence andcontinuous improvement.o Collaborate with the executive team to set and achieve company goals and objectives.o Oversee daily operations, including transaction processing, customer service, riskmanagement, and compliance.o Ensure all operational processes are efficient, effective, and compliant with industrystandards and regulations. Resource management: Oversee resource allocation, including financial, human and technologicalresources to support business operations effectively and relevant policies.
Compliance and risk management:
o Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and industry standards.o Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate operational risks.
Performance management:
o Implement KPIs and metrics to monitor operational performance and make data-drivendecisions to improve efficiency. Cross-functional collaboration:o Foster collaboration between departments to promote seamless workflow and effectivecommunication.
Payment industry expertise
o Keep abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies and regulatory changes in thepayments sector.o Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including financial institutions,regulatory bodies and technology partners.o Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance payment processingcapabilities and customer experience.
Financial management:
o Develop and manage the operational budget, ensuring financial sustainability andprofitability.o Monitor key financial metrics and implement corrective actions as needed.
Skills Required
Leadership skills: Demonstrate ability to lead and motivate teams with a focus on driving operationalexcellence, inspiring and guiding teams towards operational success. Strategic vision: Ability to develop and execute operational strategies in alignment with our longterm vision. Financial acumen: Solid financial analysis skills to assess the impact of operational decisions on
Bottom line.
Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with industry regulations and compliance requirements affecting thebanking and fintech industry. Communication skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively withstakeholders at all levels. Clear and effective communication to ensure seamless information flow. Change management: Experience in leading and managing organisational change and transformation
initiatives.
Decision-making: Making well-informed decisions and handling complex situations effectively. Adaptability: Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing market conditions and operational challenges.Collaboration: Working collaboratively with Heads Of Department and achieving company goals. Problem solving: Analytical and creative problem-solving skills to address operational issues. Emotional intelligence: Understanding and managing emotions in interacting with others. Negotiation: Strong negotiation skills in dealing with partners.
Qualifications and experience
Education: Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Finance or related field. An MBA or advanceddegree is an advantage.
Experience:
o At least 10 years in a leadership position, 2-3 of these preferably in a COO or related role inoperations management, preferably within the Fintech, payments/card/transactionalindustry.o Fintech, including payments and card experience: Strong understanding of theFintech/payments/card/transactional, banking sector, and its products, services andoperational challenges.
