Individuals hired in this position have the opportunity to progress up to $64,062/year, which is the maximum salary for this position as of December 2023.

Under the general supervision of the Traffic Control Supervisor, drives and operates a variety of mobile or stationary construction and maintenance equipment in support of streets maintenance programs for the City of St. George. This is skilled work in the specialized application of traffic control installation, maintenance and repair on city-maintained streets and facilities.
Essential Functions:Transports and operates pavement marking equipment and materials.Installs pavement markings and striping on city-maintained roads. Determines appropriate signage and placement of warning signs and barriers.Inspects, maintains and repairs traffic signals.As required, installs, maintains and repairs complex traffic signal control equipment.Installs traffic control, warning, street, construction, and regulatory signs throughout the city.Fabricates, repairs and maintains required signage.Adheres to established governmental guidelines for uniformity, proper placement of signs and meeting standards in the interest of public safety.Maintains and documents signage inventory.Cleans, maintains and services required equipment used during performance of work assignments.Utilizes welder, cutting torch, saws, shear, grinder, and other related equipment in the fabrication of signs and barricades.Enters information into the computer. May utilize computer hardware and software to perform file management, graphic design and to produce essential reports.Identifies underground electrical facilities pertaining to signalized intersections as required by Blue Stake Laws.Performs other related work as required.Typical Physical/Mental Demands/Working ConditionsHeavy physical activity exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. May have to stand, walk, or sit in uncomfortable positions for extended periods. Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather. Exposure to constant to intermittent sounds of a pitch or level sufficient to cause marked distraction or possible hearing loss; shaking objects or surfaces; and conditions such as fumes, noxious odors, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation that affect the respiratory system, eyes, or the skin. Intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior.
Note: Persons in this classification may be required to work unconventional work hours or shifts during emergency situations. Must be available for on-call rotation and be able to respond within fifteen minutes.
Minimum QualificationsEducation: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: One year of street maintenance experience or equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
Licenses and/or Certificates:
All levels: Possess a valid driver license. A valid Utah Driver License must be obtained within 60 days of hire and be maintained throughout employment.Possess, or obtain within six (6) months of hire, and maintain throughout employment a valid Class A, Utah Commercial Driver License (CDL) with tanker endorsements.Possess or must be certified within six (6) months of hire by the Utah Department of Transportation in Flagging and Work Zone Construction Signing.Must possess the ability to obtain an IMSA (International Municipal Signal Association) Traffic Signal Technician level one certification.Must possess the ability to obtain an IMSA Pavement Marking Technician Certification.All accredited certifications must be kept current.
