SPEECH & LANGUAGE THERAPIST (SPECIFIC LEARNING DISABILITY TEAM)Tafelberg School, a special needs school in Bothasig, Cape Town is looking for a school-based Speech & Language Therapist.Starting date: ASAP – 30 November 2024 (with the possibility to extend)Core Criteria:Appropriately qualified & registered with the HPCSAExperience in working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, to screen and support learners referred from mainstream schools, learners on our waiting list, as well as learners requiring support at focus schools (80% of time allocated)Experience in screening/assessment and management of learners with Specific Learning Disabilities (Grade R to Grade 9)The successful therapist would need to independently:Write comprehensive therapy reportsPlan and prepare appropriate therapeutic recommendations for teachers and parentsParticipate in formulating Individual Support PlansConduct individual, group and classroom-based therapy at base school (20% of time allocated) and identified mainstream and special schoolsContribute to case management discussions (parents and school-based support teams)Conduct staff development, in-service and parent training workshops (which might be after school hours)Good computer and organisational skillsExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to work in a multi-disciplinary team and conduct administrative duties(e.g. arrange screenings at schools, update the team's calendar of events, complete relevant documentation of support services conducted, and compile articles for the team's newsletter)Knowledge/experience in educational policies and documentsKnowledge/experience in alternative examination methodsWilling and able to assist with extra school-related duties and extra-mural activitiesPlease indicate in a covering letter (attached to your CV) in two short paragraphsThe number of months/years post–graduation experience that you have had with learners with specific learning barriersThe assessments appropriate for the school's learners that you could administer, score and report on.Applicants are respectfully informed that, if no notification of interview is received within 2 weeks after the closing date, they must accept that their application was unsuccessful.
