Job Title: Live-In Social Worker for Special Needs (ASD Spectrum) 14-Year-Old
Job Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate, experienced, skilled and capable live-in social worker to join our household and work intensively with a 14-year-old child on the autism spectrum, who exhibits behavioral issues including defiance, arguing, rudeness, and disrespect within the household.
The successful candidate will be responsible for co-creating and implementing an intensive life skills and behavioral modification program in collaboration with the child's mother. The role will require the ability to provide a 6-10 week intensive program as an intervention to consistent behavior that is causing ongoing issues within her social circle. This role requires a firm approach, discipline, establish and enforce boundaries, and support the child's development despite gross developmental delays. You will also assist with coordinating a multi disciplinary holistic team who will be working with her.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the child's mother to co-create a comprehensive life skills and behavioral program tailored to the child's needs, interests, and abilities.
Develop and implement individualized strategies to address defiance, arguing, rudeness, and disrespect exhibited by the child, with a focus on promoting positive social interactions and communication skills especially at home.
Use evidence-based approaches to support the child's developmental progress in areas of self reliance, independence and ability to complete daily tasks within the home
Establish and enforce consistent and appropriate boundaries within the household to support the child's emotional and behavioral regulation including fostering healthy conversations with others in order to learn to seek to understand others and her place within the home.
Provide regular feedback and progress reports to the child's mother, and actively seek input and involvement from the family in the ongoing program development.
Foster a nurturing and supportive environment for the child, while promoting independence, self-regulation, and self-advocacy.
Serve as a positive role model for the child, demonstrating empathy, patience, and effective communication skills in all interactions.
Collaborate with other professionals involved in the child's care, including therapists, educators, and healthcare providers, to ensure a holistic and integrated approach.
Goals
It is the role of the social worker to create an integration plan to address the following issues. You must be able to follow through by teaching and mentoring the following through to fruition each and every day being highly skilled and effective using your past experience and the families input of what works and what doesn't to reach each goal.
Understand the impact and the feelings of others of constant rudeness, defiance and arguing (that she can easily control in certain environments) that is causing pain and struggle within the home and the harm to relationships
Understand respectful and kind language and the consequences of the opposite including tone, body language, words being spoken and the power of them and how they affect others
Learn the language, demeanor and social skills needed to interact with others in multiple social environments including what is appropriate and what is not
Understand the basic house rules including becoming independent in the house and respectful of all rules when living with others including helping within the household and self care
Understand with gratitude what are privileges and how they are earned only after consistent behavior over time is seen
Assist with rebuilding trust between the mother and the daughter
Create an intensive program schedule for a range of therapists to target specific issues in relation to physical health, mental health, spirituality, emotional regulation
Qualifications:
A degree in social work or a related field, with demonstrated experience in working with individuals on the autism spectrum and/or with behavioral challenges.
Proven expertise in developing and implementing behavioral intervention plans, using positive reinforcement and behavior modification techniques.
Strong understanding of gross developmental delays and experience in implementing strategies to address these challenges.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely and effectively with the child's family and other caregivers.
Demonstrated ability to provide firm, yet empathetic discipline, while maintaining a supportive and caring environment.
Updated knowledge of evidence-based practices in supporting individuals with ASD and related behavioral issues.
Willingness to live in the household and commit to the intensive life skills and behavioral program with a long-term perspective.
