Job Description
The Shift Leader: Londani Laboratory is responsible for supervising the sampling, sample collection, sample preparation, analytical functions, and activities at the Londani Laboratory. This includes ensuring timely sampling, sample collection, sample preparation, analysis of samples, data evaluation, and reporting of results to comply with contractually agreed turnaround times. The role also supports the Lab Supervisor to meet business objectives and ensure compliance with Company policies and business guidelines.
Supervise the sampling, sample collection, sample preparation, analytical functions, and activities at the Londani Laboratory.
Ensure timely sampling, sample collection, sample preparation, analysis of samples, data evaluation, and reporting of results to comply with contractually agreed turnaround times.
Supervise the key performance indicators of the Lab Technicians and Operators.
Measure the performance of individual Lab Technicians and Operators and manage accordingly.
Manage time and attendance of Lab Technicians and Operators.
Responsible for the learning and development of Lab Technicians and Operators.
Ensure adequate manpower resources, equipment, and tools are available for operational efficiency.
Maintain sampling, sample preparation, and laboratory equipment.
Control and request ordering of consumables from the Lab Supervisor and assist with maintaining associated records and stock levels.
Assist in maintaining all human resources-related documentation for the shift.
Assist the Lab Supervisor with revenue and expense control of the Londani Laboratory Operations, in line with operational budgets and business strategies.
Assist with the management and continuous improvement of the quality management system, and the implementation of any certifications and accreditation systems within the business lines.
Assist management in the effective implementation and maintenance of SGS QHSE systems, as well as client-specific safety standards (e.g., ISO 17025 & NOSA).
Provide technical support to all present and potential clients.
Assist with complaints and claim resolution.
Provide technical and sales support.
Keep abreast of new trends, current developments, and relevant research.
Attend all meetings as per client requirements.
Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by the direct line manager.
Conduct relevant monthly meetings with Lab Technicians and Operators.
Assist the Lab Supervisor with preparation for monthly service level agreement performance meetings with clients.
Assist the Lab Supervisor with quarterly client satisfaction surveys with all stakeholders.
Qualifications
Preferably a Degree/Diploma in Metallurgy or Chemistry.
Minimum Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science.
Additional Information
Minimum of 5 years laboratory experience; supervisory experience is essential.
Coal sampling, sample preparation, analysis, and coal beneficiation experience are essential.
Evaluation of data and reporting of results are essential; cost control experience is required.
