With more than 89,000 employees, SGS operates a network of over 2,600 offices and laboratories around the world.Job DescriptionThe Shift Leader: Londani Laboratory is responsible for supervising the sampling, sample collection, sample preparation, analytical function, and activities at the Londani Laboratory, ensuring timely sampling, sample collection, sample preparation, analysis of samples, data evaluation, and reporting of results to comply with contractually agreed turnaround times. This role supports the Lab Supervisor: Londani Laboratory to meet business objectives and ensure compliance with Company policies and business guidelines.Supervise the sampling, sample collection, sample preparation, analytical functions, and activities at the Londani Laboratory.Ensure timely sampling, sample collection, sample preparation, analysis of samples, data evaluation, and reporting of results to comply with contractually agreed turnaround times.Supervise the key performance indicators of Lab Technicians and Operators.Measure the performance of individual Lab Technicians and Operators and manage accordingly.Manage time and attendance control of Lab Technicians and Operators.Responsible for the Learning and Development of Lab Technicians and Operators.Ensure adequate and appropriate manpower resources, equipment, and tools are available for total operational efficiency.Maintain sampling, sample preparation, and laboratory equipment.Control and request ordering of consumables from the Lab Supervisor and assist with maintaining associated records and stock levels.Assist in maintaining all human resources-related documentation for the shift.Assist the Lab Supervisor with the responsibility for revenue and expense control of the Londani Laboratory Operations, in line with operational budgets and business strategies.Assist with the management and continuous improvement of the quality management system, and the implementation of any certifications and accreditation systems within the business lines.Assist management and carry responsibility for the effective implementation and maintenance of SGS QHSE systems, as well as client-specific safety standards (e.g., ISO 17025 & NOSA).Assist the Lab Supervisor with liaison and technical support to all present and potential clients.Assist the Lab Supervisor with complaints and claim resolution.Assist the Lab Supervisor with technical and sales support.Keep abreast of new trends, current developments, and relevant research.Attend all meetings as per client requirements.Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by the direct line manager.Conduct relevant monthly meetings with Lab Technicians and Operators.Assist the Lab Supervisor with the preparation for the monthly service level agreement performance meetings with clients.Assist the Lab Supervisor with the quarterly client satisfaction surveys to be conducted with all stakeholders.QualificationsPreferably a Degree/Diploma in Metallurgy or Chemistry.Minimum Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science.Additional InformationMinimum of 5 years laboratory experience, supervisory experience essential.Coal sampling, sample preparation, analysis, and coal beneficiation experience essential.Evaluation of data and reporting of results essential.
