Description: The Critical Studies in Equity and Solidarity Program at New College seeks a sessional lecturer from September 1, 2024 – December 31, 2024 for the following in-person course:
CSE270H1F – Community Dis/Engagement and Solidarity CSE270H1 – An introduction to issues and questions arising from the field of 'community engagement'. Explores the meaning, practices, and implications of/for 'community' and 'community (dis)engagement' from multiple perspectives (e.g. the State and its agencies, institutional power, colonial discourse, communities of embodied difference, etc.). Takes a multi-media and arts-based approach to examining self-care from an anti-colonial perspective of central importance in the practice and pedagogy of critical equity and solidarity in the collective struggle for freedom and transformation.
Estimated TA Support: 300 hoursClass Schedule: Thursdays 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.Note: This course will be delivered in person. However, please note that, in keeping with current circumstances, the course delivery may change as determined by the Faculty or the Department.
Minimum Qualifications Completed or nearly completed Ph.D. (or equivalent) required, with an academic background in areas related to the specific course. Academic background in social justice theory/praxis, community engaged teaching and learning, and familiarity with anti-oppressive pedagogies.
Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching equity and social justice issues in a university setting is preferred.
Responsibilities Normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration, and marking of assignments, tests, and exams; calculation and submission of grades; and holding regular office hours.
