University of the Western Cape -> Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Academic -> Community Engagement UnitType of Position: Permanent - Full TimeClosing Date: 18/11/2024Role Clarification & Key Performance AreasReporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Academic, the Community Engagement Unit (CEU) at the University of the Western Cape supports the University's academic efforts through the Scholarship of Engagement, promoting the integration of Learning & Teaching, Research, and Community Engagement. The CEU promotes community engagement that fosters equitable partnerships and sustainable communities, reflecting UWC's values and history.The CEU seeks to appoint a Senior Researcher to lead the research strategic objectives of the Community Engagement Unit, under the guidance of the Director.Key Tasks:Conduct research projects, present progress updates, develop research tools, coordinate data collection, analyze data, create comprehensive reports, design publications, and control project budget.Collaborate with vendors and UWC's Centre for Innovative Education & Communication Technologies (CIECT), analyze data, maintain Knowledge Management System (KMS) and collaborate with UWC academics and administrators regarding community engagement activities.Maintenance of the CEU website.Managing staff working on KMS and research projects (research assistants).Provide support for Community Engagement research projects.Oversee the bi-annual publication of the University's community engagement activities.Present regular updates regarding the progress of the community engagement KMS.Maintenance of the CEU Resource Centre.Coordinating and facilitating continuous educational training courses, as well as compiling and maintaining these courses, toolkits and manuals.Development and registration of new short courses.Coordination of capacity building and training of staff.Qualifications and Key Competencies:A Doctoral degree – preferably in the Social Sciences.At least 3-5 years' experience in community engagement in a Higher Education Institution.Proven ability to secure research grants and funding from national and international sources, demonstrating competence in research proposal writing and project management.Demonstrable research experience, including at least 8 publications in accredited journals and/or equivalent recognised research outputs.Experience in curricula development and teaching of courses in community engagement and or related fields.Experience of research project design and research project management and administration (e.g. reporting, budgeting, financial management, etc.).Advantageous Experience:Experience in Higher Education Community Engagement (CE) and/or the Scholarship of Engagement.Experience in organising and/or facilitating academic events in higher education settings.Experience in using Atlas.ti, NVivo and SPSS.Subject Matter Expertise.Analytical skills to address complex research questions and overcome challenges that arise during research projects.Leadership and Mentoring.Academic Networking.Teaching and Curriculum Development.Website maintenance.Ethical and Regulatory Compliance including understanding and adherence to ethical standards and research regulations and institutional and national guidelines.The ability to work effectively with researchers from different disciplines to address complex problems and contribute to interdisciplinary projects.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the use of social media.Cultural and contextual awareness.In your application, you are encouraged to highlight your strengths and include anything else you deem exceptional and outstanding to be considered by the selection panel.
