Description: About us:
The Operations unit in the University Registrar's Office is responsible for providing advice and support to academic divisions and the Office of the Vice-Provost, Strategic Enrolment Management (VPSEM) management on key processes and systems to support the student experience. These include processes and systems related to admissions, student financial assistance, transcripts and related processes. The Operations unit manages, monitors and evaluates these systems and works with stakeholders across the university to recommend and advocate for system enhancement. This unit is the key central university resource on student information system matters including admissions, financial aid, records, registration and related functions. The Operations unit also provides direct technical and business process support to other VPSEM units (Student Recruitment, Admissions, Financial Aid, Convocations, and LSM) to ensure the smooth functioning and continued development of technical systems supporting admissions and student records.
Your opportunity:
Under the direction of the Manager, IT Services, the Senior Programmer Analyst and Administrator is a full-stack developer who strategically designs, develops, tests, documents and provides operational maintenance for secure, responsive and accessible applications and underlying web services and databases. The developer will also be responsible for keeping appraised of new technology & opportunities that can be leveraged to update & develop top-tier applications for Enrolment Services. The developer will leverage 3rd party APIs, middleware, and utilities as appropriate, balancing functional and non-functional user, system and dataflow requirements based on industry best practices & University standards for student data lifecycle.
The Senior Programmer Analyst and Administrator is also responsible for the update and maintenance of the VPSEM databases, networks and systems. They will be tasked with supervising the work and mentorship of desktop and network support staff ensuring continued support for desktop and network services.
Your responsibilities will include: Analyzing, recommending, and designing highly complex software architectureDeveloping and updating architectural framework for highly complex and confidential university-wide applicationsAnalyzing and making recommendations for programming enhancementsUpdating and maintaining the systems, databases, and networks as the primary AdministratorAdvising on cost, feasibility and impact of different implementation solutionsFostering cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contactsLeading and planning IT projectsPlanning and estimating financial resources required for programs and/or projectsEssential Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Computer Science or Engineering, or acceptable combination of equivalent experienceMinimum five (5) years experience in information technology work, preferably in an enrolment working environment at a university or post-secondary institutionExperience in hardware and software supportExperience supporting local area networksExperience in active directory and domain administrationExperience in relational data base systems, especially SQL Server, MariaDB, and Oracle DBExperience with all aspects of website developmentDemonstrates superior organizational and analytical/diagnostic skills, and excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staffSelf-motivated, results oriented, a quick learner with a strong service orientation and impeccable attention to detailWorks effectively both independently and as part of a teamTakes initiative, works well under pressure, meets strict deadlines and makes sound judgmentsDemonstrates tact and patience in dealing with administrative and academic staff as well as with studentsAssets (Nonessential): Programming experience with Java, Oracle, Apache Tomcat, Docker and Linux would be an assetFamiliarity with the ROSI interface, its underlying data architecture, paradigms, methodologies and data-access tools would be an assetTo be successful in this role you will be: AdaptableMulti-taskerTeam playerClosing Date: 09/26/2024, 11:59PM ET
