Job description
Responsibilities:

Devise the annual Development and Fundraising strategy and operational plans in line with the UJ strategy and drive fundraising team to achieve the targets.
Manage staff and their Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in accordance with the Development and Fundraising strategies and operational plans.
Design, strategise and operationalise fundraising campaigns.
Manage and ensure that all annual targets relating to mobilising resources for the university are met.
Manage the collegiality and working relationships within the Development and Fundraising Office and other departments within the university.
Manage the staff in accordance with the UJ governance procedures and policies.
Ensure that staff is motivated and work optimally.
Manage the Development and Fundraising Office budget.
Ensure that communication, marketing and PR events and systems are fully operational and always functioning optimally in aid of fundraising.
Network and build relationships to open doors for the university with national and international donors and prospects and manage the stewardship process.
Manage all fundraising activities including events and grants.
Remain abreast of fundraising best practices and laws, ensuring compliance with UJ and other pertinent government standards (e.g., POPIA) to exhibit good governance to the donor community.

Minimum requirements
Qualifications:

Essential: Honours or NQF 8 equivalent Degree in Public Relations / Communications / Marketing / Sales / Business Management.
Desirable: Certificate in Fundraising.

Experience:

5 years' fundraising experience with a proven track record is essential (fundraising targets must be met).
5 years' working experience in a fundraising environment is essential.
5 years' working experience in a tertiary education/non-profit sector is desirable.
The successful candidate has to be deadline and target driven, with the will and persistence to succeed.
Experience in project management is essential.
Verbal and strong written communication skills are essential.
Persuading and influencing skills are essential.
The successful candidate should be highly organised and a team player.
Driver's licence and own car is essential as extensive national travel is required.

An individual with a strong will to succeed and the determination to achieve targets is essential. The individual must be professional and experienced with a proven, successful fundraising track record.
The successful candidate may be required to travel locally, nationally, and internationally, and work evenings and weekends as required.
