Job Purpose: To contribute to curriculum development and to teach according to a set syllabus while providing support to the faculty in pursuit of achieving its academic objectives. The incumbent will also contribute to academic initiatives to enhance learning and promote entrepreneurship learning according to community needs, and support co-operative education programs. Additionally, the role involves supporting faculty research initiatives through undertaking research and contributing towards group research. The incumbent is expected to produce a minimum of one unit of research a year and graduate at least two post-graduate students.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience: A Doctoral degree in Communication Studies or a closely related qualification relevant to the teaching of Communication Management/Communication Science. (The candidate must obtain the relevant undergraduate underpinning qualification(s) within the field of study)At least four (4) years' relevant lecturing experience in Higher Education.Successful supervision of post-graduates to completion.Record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.Recommendations: A working knowledge in the field of Strategic Corporate Communication Management will be an advantage.Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities: Lecturer the following subjects at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels of study: Communication Management, Communication Science, Communication Theory, Strategic Corporate Communication Management, and certain Public Relations subjects.Participate in Curriculum development, Courseware development, and assessment in Communication Science, Communication Management, Communication Theory, and Strategic Communication Management.Design, initiate and manage projects across the program and the department.Publish in DHET recognized local and international publications.Provide academic leadership in the department.Perform appropriate academic and administrative duties in the Department.Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the Department.Participate in research and research capacity building.Contribute to community initiatives by integrating community interventions into the curriculum.Develop and maintain linkages with industry and professional bodies on co-operative education, new techniques/technologies, and research projects.Assist with marketing and recruitment activities; contributes to the planning for "Open Day", attends Open Day, and provides information on Faculty courses.Personal/Professional Development in any areas of the Media and Communication.Provide support for Work-integrated learning and monitoring.Risk management and related activities.Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department.Knowledge about latest developments in the study of Communication Science and Media Studies.Knowledge and experience in Editorial Management and Design.Ability to work on software such as InDesign and Publisher.Excellent Communication skills (verbal and written).Ability to manage projects independently.Ability to introduce change.Building a successful team.Building partnerships.Coaching & Mentoring skills.In-depth knowledge of subject matter.Interest in research.Project management.Stress tolerance.Good ability and willingness to contribute in a team.General Information: Closing Date: 03 November 2024
