Duties & Responsibilities:
Installation, configuration and upgrade of DBMS
Implement database security policies, data encryption, account management and access control
Ensure that database activities are monitored, to detect (and prevent) unauthorized activities and/or data breaches
Design, develop, and implement databases in collaboration with development team
Design and implement high availability and disaster recovery (HADR)
Database risk and security management
Change control between environments
Perform regular backups of data and recovery and ensure data integrity.
Enforce standards, policies & procedures relating to data
Perform requests for the import and export of data
Check & test performance, indexes and best practice
Monitor and optimize database performance, tuning, storage management and allocating resources
Update data base dictionary documentation
Analyse, design and integrate data from all systems
Plan, analyse and design involvement in all data conversions
Provide 3rd line support where needed
Plan, analyse, design & test adhoc project initiatives
Interact with project owners and management, drive critical project and product trade-off decisions
Monitor Service Desk queue and manage incidents, requests and problems experienced with systems, within agreed SLA
Conduct research and make recommendations on DB products, services, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts
Monitor DB growth and research alternative archiving and storage solutions
Provide budgeting needs to Management
Formal Education:
IT related degree/diploma
Microsoft Certification (MCSA – Database Development & Administration)
Experience:
IT experience: 7 years
DBA: 3-5 years
Project Management 2 years (advantage)
Insurance industry experience: 2 – 3 years (advantage)
Cloud computing with SQL Server: 2-3 years (advantage)
