The use of a patrol dog provides a higher level of protection to the client as well as the dog handler.
Patrol dogs act as a pre-warning to potential criminals.
Patrol dogs are very effective in the tracking and arresting of suspects.
Dog handlers must act responsibly when a patrol dog is used to apprehend a suspect.
No excessive force may be used to apprehend a suspect.
If a suspect doesn't resist, a dog may not assist.
When a suspect resists arrest or tries to flee, a dog may be used until the circumstances change or the suspect is under control.
When a dog was used to arrest a suspect, Tokara main gate, cellar control, and TSU management must be informed immediately.
The SAPS must also be contacted so that the arrested person can be handed over to them for detention and the necessary statements can be provided.
