Kumba Iron OreWe produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Guided by our purpose and our values, we enable both high performance and purposeful action as we aim to "re-imagine mining to improve people's lives", delivering the metals and minerals that make modern life possible.Job DescriptionPurposeEnsure effective employee relations and transformation processes for Kumba.Your duties will include:Provide a safe and healthy work environment where workers deliver outputs within a controlled risk environment.Active participation in VFLs, Risk Assessments and close-out of Safety Actions.Ensure P&O legal compliance by monitoring it regularly.Develop, maintain, and revise Kumba's ER strategy, policy, system, and practices at the national and international levels in collaboration with the business team.Provide input on compensation issues and initiatives specifically for non-package employees.Conduct collective bargaining negotiations within the given mandate for primary conditions of service and remuneration for non-package category employees at all Kumba workplaces.Negotiate substantive issues, such as wages and conditions of employment, during collective bargaining processes.Negotiate procedural matters, such as Recognition Agreements, during collective bargaining processes.Facilitate and advise on employee consultative matters for better employee relations.Regulate and manage organised labour relationships to maintain positive relationships.Ensure policies are aligned with labour legislation across Kumba by negotiating and consulting them with the relevant parties.Establish outstanding relationships with organised labour and other authoritative bodies, including regular liaison and assessment of trends/opinions of the respective bodies.Conduct Employee Relations research to study ER trends/developments, practices, and procedures nationally and internationally.Interact and consult strategically with the national leadership of trade unions.Represent Kumba on national and sector decision-making bodies to ensure representation.Interact with government bodies on matters related to the employment relationship.Establish participation and communication structures at corporate and business levels for effective communication.Develop and maintain communication systems, such as disciplinary codes and grievance procedures, for better employee relations.Advise and sensitise management/business on employee relations matters/developments for better understanding.Provide guidance or advice on ER competence to ensure employees understand their rights and responsibilities.Advise and facilitate organisational change management efforts where employees' conditions of employment are impacted to ensure smooth transitions.Manage budget and cost control, i.e. organise the section's expenditures to ensure adequate cost control/savings.Optimize human resources and maximise output delivery by the section to enable workers to improve their performance while maintaining strong work ethics.Ensure that all subordinates have performance contracts and respective discussions to build a competent workforce and monitor their competence to suggest adequate employee development programs.QualificationsQualifications Prescribed Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Labour Law / Industrial Relations or equivalent on (NQF7)Diploma (Certificate) in Alternative Dispute ResolutionHonours degree in Labour Law/Industrial Relations AdvantageousSA Drivers LicenseRegistration with a professional body (SASLAW)Technical Knowledge6-8 years of experience in Employee Relations (ER) in a corporate/mining environment.Solid employee relations experience, preferably in the mining industry.Knowledge and understanding of the relevant acts and bodies, e.g. Labour Relations Act; BCEA, EEA, disciplinary procedure, trade unions consultation, Mine Health and Safety Act.
