The ideal candidate will possess a strong scientific background, exceptional communication skills, and expertise in project management to ensure the successful execution of initiatives that engage diverse audiences.Job Duration:Candidate Location: South Africa - Remote Work from HomeEmployment Type: Full-time, 40 hours per weekTarget Start date: February 2025Roles and Responsibilities:Science Communication:Develop and deliver accessible, engaging, and accurate science content for various formats, including articles, blogs, videos, presentations, social media, and events.Collaborate with subject matter experts to translate complex scientific concepts into content suitable for non-specialist audiences.Represent the organisation at public forums, conferences, and media appearances as a science communicator.Lead community outreach and engagement activities to promote science awareness.Manage and monitor the impact of communication efforts using analytics and feedback.Project Management:Plans, coordinates, and executes science communication projects from concept to completion, ensuring they align with organisational goals and timelines.Develop project plans, budgets, and schedules while managing resources effectively.Lead cross-functional teams, including scientists, designers, writers, and external vendors, to ensure high-quality deliverables.Identify and mitigate project risks, addressing challenges proactively.Maintain clear and consistent communication with stakeholders, providing regular updates and reports.Ensure compliance with ethical guidelines and standards for science communication.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's or Master's degree in a science-related field, Communication, Journalism, or equivalent experience.A background in science communication, public engagement, or a related role.Skills and Competencies:Strong understanding of scientific concepts and the ability to communicate them effectively to non-specialist audiences.Proven experience in project management, with knowledge of project management tools.Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment.Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with teams and stakeholders.Other Preferred Requirements:Experience in creating multimedia content (video, podcasts, infographics, etc.
