They assist patients who have disabilities or experienced traumatic events that left them with speech, voice, or swallowing impairments.Job DescriptionEvaluate and diagnose speech, language, communication, or swallowing difficulties.Develop and implement effective treatment programs.Provide counseling to patients and patients' families about results of testing and recommended treatment options.Establish patient understanding, expectations, and goals for treatment.Create accurate documentation and reporting for all patient visits.Delegate duties to support personnel as appropriate.Maintain communication with staff and outside agencies per state guidelines.Refer patients to medical specialists in dentistry, psychology, or other related fields.License or Certification:Must be in possession of current SLPA certificate on or before the first day of employment.CPR certification, TB skin test, Auto Insurance, and Driver License.Education, Training and Experience:Minimum requirement: Associate degree in and/or graduation from a Speech-Language Pathology assistant certificate program.Experience is preferred but not required.
