Job Description:The Safety Manager will be responsible to provide tactical and technical support to the De Beers Group as well as implementation of group wide initiatives.KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:Develop the appropriate tools and processes that will enable the implementation of the Group Safety Strategy, Objectives, Programmes, Standards and TargetsDevelop processes and tools to report on the on the safety KPIs and programmesAnalyse data and trends to identify risks or opportunities that need to be managed or exploredMaintain the De Beers Group and Managed Operations safety risk log and follow up to ensure action plans are on track.Partner with and assist with the implementation of Group safety programmesDevelop and implement Managed Operations safety policy, programmes and targets aligned to the Group strategy.Develops and manages the Managed Operations Safety budget.Provide advice, technical input and guidance to the Managed Operations GMs and Safety Managers and teams.Conduct incident investigations and develop and maintain both the Group and Managed Operations safety incident reporting framework, and database and analyse and share learnings to shape and embed a culture of continuous collaborative learning from incidents.Develop and maintain the key emergency and crisis management response framework, processes and tools and ensure appropriate testing.Assist in the evaluation and assessment of solutions for new projects, unusual conditions and corrective measures to control risk.Evaluate the effectiveness of the Safety management programme, including training and awareness, identify opportunities and threats and formulate plans for enhancement.Programmes developed and delivered that result in high levels of employee engagement.Coordinates the revision of the Safety policies and procedures and required documentation on an ongoing basis to ensure compliance to current legislation and standards.Compiles reports and statistics to meet Group and Managed Operations requirements.Monitors adherence to the Group and Managed Operations safety management programme and objectivesMonitors compliance to permissions, exemptions and report on any deviationsMaintain the Safety risk management system according to organisational requirements.Qualifications:The successful incumbent must meet the following criteria:Degree in a mining, engineering or relevant disciplineCandidates with a strong background in mining, processing, engineering but not in traditional safety management shall be consideredStrong technical expertise, business acumen and experience in design and implementation of Safety management and programmesPractical experience of working at site level in a range of Safety initiatives.Demonstrated experience of delivering complex safety programmes to budget and schedule and measurement of Safety impactAbility to impact BUs where little or no formal authority exists.Experience working in complex / differing stakeholder environments.Strong foundational knowledge in Safety, Occupational safety, Mine safety, risk assessments, SHE Management systemsKnowledge and experience of working in the mining sector.REQUIRED SKILLS / COMPETENCIES:Strong communication and influence skillsCommercial acumen, problem solving and risk identification.Strong stakeholder managementStrong analytical and risk assessment skillsProven ability to prepare.analyse and manage data.Delivery focussed.BACKGROUND CHECKSSuccessful candidates will be required to complete background screening which may include a criminal check, validation of qualifications and medicals.
