Main Purpose: The Regional Head of HSSE - Africa will lead and implement Puma Energy's Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) strategy, including management systems, programs and training to mitigate risk, optimize worker's health and safety, reduce environmental and community impact, and foster a positive HSSE culture across the region. This role is responsible for providing operational HSSE advice and support to our leaders, and delivering initiatives that continually improve our culture and performance in line with the Puma Energy Global HSSE Vision and Strategy.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities: KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Drive a high performing Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) culture that promotes accountability and employee advocacy through effective leadership and people engagement strategies. Lead the development, implementation and measurement of regional strategies and initiatives that foster continual improvement in HSSE performance and culture. Manage HSSE compliance and regulatory issues across the African Region consistent with Puma Energy policies and operational requirements. Proactively monitor and analyze HSSE performance data and trends, and initiate continuous improvement opportunities across the African Region. Ensure Training Needs Analysis (TNA) are developed and in place for all sites and countries. Support and provide guidance to site, country and regional leadership on investigations into injuries, incidents, near misses, breaches or other events. Conduct local level monitoring and measurement activities to identify areas of non-compliance with the implementation and effectiveness of the Global HSSE Management System. Build a team of accountable HSSE leaders who can deliver the business goals. Prepare reports and presentations including recommendations that contribute to ongoing improvement activities. Actively participate as a member of the Global HSSE leadership team and work collaboratively with the broader HSSE Group. REQUIREMENTS Experience: 10 year's practical experience in a Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) role, ideally with a focus in Oil and Gas, Construction, Aviation and/or other high-risk industries, including 5 years in a leadership role; Comprehensive understanding of the HSSE legislative frameworks across African jurisdictions; University degree in health, safety and/or environment discipline or similar; Postgraduate degree in health and safety or business administration is preferred; HSE Lead Auditor qualifications (IRCA, RABQSA or equivalent); Tertiary qualifications in Project Management is preferred; Knowledge and experience with international standards ISO 45001, ISO 45003, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001. Working experience in leading HSSE teams across a regional footprint. Skills: Fluent English, strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills; Demonstrated regional project management capability and incident investigation skills; Strong risk evaluation and management skills; High level of interpersonal skills, including strong teamwork, negotiating and influencing skills; Strong analytical and conceptual skills; Excellent writing skills with the ability to produce high level, detailed reports, and documentation; Experience in the development and application of HSSE Learning and Development Programs; Strong computer skills and superior use of Microsoft Office suite including HSSE digital platforms; Commercial acumen and strong financial management skills. Competencies: Experience working in a large, multi-cultural environment; Experience in leading regional teams and inspiring high levels of employee engagement; Strong leadership capabilities and a collaborative style which can manage and influence a variety of regional stakeholders; Results oriented individual with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and timelines. Key Relationships and Department Overview: KEY RELATIONSHIPS Internal: Global HSSE Group, Head of Africa, Regional Function Leaders, Regional Chief Operating Officer, Country General Managers, Country Operational Managers, Country HSSE Managers, Site Operational Teams, Supervisors, Employees and Contractors. External: Regulatory Authorities across African jurisdictions, Regional Service Providers and Suppliers, Auditors, Contractors, Customers, and others as delegated by the Global Head of HSSE.
