Job Title: Quantity Surveyor – Procurement DepartmentLocation: MidrandReports To: Supply Chain ManagerJob Summary: The Quantity Surveyor in the Procurement Department is responsible for managing all costs related to construction and civil engineering projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures. The role involves procuring the necessary materials, services, and equipment while ensuring the best value and quality. The Quantity Surveyor will work closely with project managers, suppliers, and contractors to ensure that projects are completed within the approved budget and time frame.Key Responsibilities:Cost Management: Monitor and control project costs to ensure that the project remains within budget. Provide cost estimates and financial forecasting to support project decision-making.Procurement Management: Manage the procurement process, including preparing and reviewing tender documents, obtaining competitive quotes, and selecting suppliers. Ensure compliance with procurement policies and procedures.Contract Administration: Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with suppliers, subcontractors, and service providers. Ensure that all contracts are executed in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.Budgeting and Reporting: Prepare detailed budgets and financial reports for projects. Monitor expenditures, track costs, and prepare monthly cost reports for the management team.Risk Management: Identify and manage potential risks related to project costs and procurement. Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to minimize financial exposure.Supplier Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, contractors, and other stakeholders. Ensure the timely delivery of materials and services to meet project deadlines.Value Engineering: Conduct value engineering exercises to optimize the cost-effectiveness of projects without compromising quality. Recommend cost-saving measures and alternative solutions where appropriate.Compliance: Ensure all procurement activities comply with company policies, industry standards, and legal requirements. Stay updated with changes in laws and regulations affecting procurement and construction.Qualifications And Experience:Computer Literate.BSC Quantity Surveyor Degree/ Diploma Certified Quantity Surveyor.Minimum of 5 years of experience in quantity surveying, with a focus on procurement within the construction or engineering industry. Experience in cost control and contract management is essential.Experience with Buildsmart and Candy (preferential).Accuracy with figures / calculations.Ability to Interpret Drawings.Company Policies (Quality Health & Safety).Knowledge of ISO 9001 and 18001.Standard Procedures SP 1; SP 06; SP 07; SP 09; SP 20.Skills:Strong analytical and numerical skills.Excellent negotiation and communication abilities.Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., MS Office, CostX, or similar).Strong knowledge of construction contracts (e.g., JCT, NEC).Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.Certifications: Professional certification (e.g., MRICS, RICS) is preferred.Personal Attributes:Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy.Proactive and able to take initiative.Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
