Company DescriptionWe have an exciting opportunity for a Protection Officer. The purpose of this role is to protect and maintain the safety and security of property, assets, and people working for the mine by rendering high-risk specialised services.Job DescriptionAs our Protection Officer, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:Consistently apply safety principles in all interactions and take personal responsibility for the safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.Function as a role model and reinforce a workplace culture where safety for the site is paramount.Collect and summarise the specific risks within the working area and implement plans to avoid these risks.Active participation in SLAMs, HPHs, relevant Risk Assessments and close-out of Safety Actions.Provide specialised close protection services to senior managers, executives, and VIP visitors by ensuring their safety and security.Respond tactically to security incidents, criminal activity, or alarm activations to prevent harm to the organisation or its people.Conduct preliminary crime scene investigations to ensure proper scene preservation, interview witnesses, take statements, open investigation dockets, and maintain case books and exhibit registers according to the best industry practices.Manage high-risk crowds and control riots during labour or civil unrest incidents to protect company assets, employees, and reputation.Prevent criminal activities by performing vehicle-based patrols of high-risk areas, observing duties, setting up roadblocks, assisting security officers during peak hours by searching people and vehicles, and conducting prohibited substance testing.Conduct security audits and surveys to identify potential security threats and compile detailed reports to mitigate those risks.Represent protection services management after hours or when directed, ensuring that all security-related issues are managed efficiently and effectively.QualificationsGrade 12 or equivalent (NQF Level 4)Security-related National Certificate (NQF4) AdvantageousSecurity-related Higher National Certificate (NQF5)Registered with PSIRA as a Grade B Security OfficerFirearm Competency (including SAPS competency)Basic Investigations CourseSA Drivers LicenceTechnical Knowledge3-5 years of relevant experience in safety/security, preferably in a mining environment.Computer literacy (MS Office)Tactical response experience gained in security or police environment.Comprehensive practical knowledge of criminal investigation.Comprehensive knowledge of handling firearms.In-depth understanding of the Voluntary Principles on Human Rights and Security.Knowledge of handling less lethal weapons.In-depth understanding of Riot Control & Strike Management techniques.How To ApplyTo apply for this role, please complete our online application form.
