The focus of trade union work in South Africa will be on the mining sector. In this context, CNV Internationaal emphasises the importance of a fair and just transition: a transition that should implement new technologies for a greener economy while protecting the affected workers across the globe. We aspire to extend our work to improve the labour rights of mining workers in South Africa.
What will you do?Your first assignment will be to complement a study with a mapping of the Trade Union and Social Dialogue landscape in South Africa. You will also help build a relevant network of partners and assist in further developing our intervention strategy and activities.
Perform the Trade Union and Social Dialogue mapping (write the ToR, organise planning, budget and execute yourself).Organise (online) meetings with potential partners.Develop an intervention strategy and activity plan with the CNV Internationaal team.Represent CNV Internationaal at relevant events and meetings.Give presentations on CNV study findings.Build and maintain a relevant network of NGOs, business and government agencies.Coordinate and execute CNV Internationaal activities in South Africa.Draw up documents capitalizing on the strategies and experience of CNV and its partners.Write articles related to the programme's activities.Support the programme's communication and visibility.Who are you?We are looking for someone who is analytical and pragmatic, able to alternate between conducting research and coordinating activities with Trade Unions and other partners. You should have experience with Trade Unions and other stakeholders in the mining industry of South Africa, and value (remote) teamwork while confidently carrying out activities independently.
Hold a Master's degree in Socio-economics, Organisation/Business management, Development Sociology, International Trade or equivalent.At least five (5) years' experience as a consultant/programme officer including research and management.Planning, coordination, functional management, group/meeting facilitation and teamwork skills.Experience supporting civil society organisations or trade unions.Good knowledge of trade unions and civil society organisations in South Africa.Good research and writing skills.Willingness to travel within the country for meetings with stakeholders.Ability to operate flexibly and responsibly in a multi-cultural environment.Knowledge of gender and the mineral mining value chain is an asset.Computer skills, particularly in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Canva, Internet, etc.Experience with CNV Internationaal's themes: social dialogue, labour rights in supply chains, and gender equality.Experience in developing lobby and advocacy plans.Experience working with a Theory of Change.Network in international cooperation and/or corporate social responsibility in South Africa.What we offerWorking at CNV Internationaal provides an opportunity to make social impact.
