Product development and manufacturing aerospace engineering company in Somerset West has a permanent position for a Production Team Lead, responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of an assigned production line and team. Actively support the team's outputs with the assembly of high-reliability electro-mechanical products.KEY TASKSResponsible for ensuring that the cleanroom always complies with NSS internal cleanliness standards.Responsible for ensuring that cleanroom logs are completed accurately and up to date.Responsible for reporting any deficiencies in materials, parts, or consumables to Quality.Responsible for maintaining stock levels of materials, parts, or consumables and reporting any shortage to stores for replenishment.Responsible for execution and adherence to the production plan.Ensure team actively logs and completes tasks in MOM in line with the production plan.Plan, organise, coordinate, manage and control production teams to ensure output delivery and quality standard requirements are met.Ensure that all work standards used are current and all steps are followed and adhered to.Responsible for identifying issues and potential line stops that may impact the capacity planning and reporting thereof to the Production Shift Supervisor.Report and escalate problems, findings, and discipline problems to the next level.Assign duties, set goals, communicate to all levels, conduct team meetings and ensure a smooth shift handover.Ensure good timekeeping at all times. Address timekeeping problems and escalate to Production Shift Supervisor. Team must be on time and deliver on time.Ensure personnel is working safely and following health and safety rules and regulations.Operations: Assembly Technician:Responsible for the day-to-day cleanroom operations.Population and hand-soldering of PCBs to the highest (space/satellite) standards.Assembly of harnesses.Assembly of boards and other components into chasses.Application of glues, thermal compounds, and conformal coatings.Operation of related assembly aids, such as curing oven, vacuum tank, compressor, solder pots, crimping tools, etc.Ensuring traceability of all parts during the assembly process.Logging and controlling the storage of electronic and other components as well as work in progress and completed products.Secure packing of completed products suitable for international shipments.Capturing of tasks and job status in line with build operations.Reporting production progress and issues to line manager.Review assembly documentation/build instructions and understand what needs to be done and how it is to be done.Ensure all documentation is signed off for traceability.Ensure correct procedures and processes are followed during manufacturing.QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCERelevant Degree or Diploma from a recognised institution.Experience & Knowledge:Experience (ideally within the aerospace or defence industry):Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in a manufacturing environment.3-5 years experience as a Team Leader in a manufacturing environment (preferable).Ability to interpret mechanical and electronic drawings.Appreciation and experience of ISO9001 requirements.Knowledge of satellite subsystems and the space environment.Cleanroom, ESD, and optical assembly environment.Good knowledge and experience in technical support in a manufacturing environment.COMPETENCIES & SKILLSPositive self-motivated, self-starter attitude.Responsible.Team player.Good written and oral communication skills.Able to persuade and influence others.Flexible and able to multi-task, can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment.
