We have an exciting opportunity for a Plater. The purpose of this role is to construct, maintain, and repair metal structures and components essential for mining equipment's efficient and safe operation.
Job Description: As our Plater, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Safety, Health, and Environment:Adhere to all health and safety practices and requirements.Promote good housekeeping to ensure compliance and an environment where team members can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment.Exemplify all relevant safety standards and procedures as a positive example for learners to follow and prioritize in their work practices.Active participation in SLAMs, HPHs, relevant Risk Assessments, and close-out of Safety Actions.Performance and Delivery:Work with various types of metal, such as steel or aluminium, and use cutting tools to shape the metal plates according to the required dimensions and specifications.Use welding techniques to join metal plates, creating the structural components of metal structures.Assemble the fabricated metal plates into larger structures or other industrial components while ensuring proper alignment and fit of the plates during assembly.Apply protective coatings to metal surfaces to prevent corrosion and extend the lifespan of mining equipment and structures.Install fabricated components within larger structures, ensuring the plates are securely positioned and aligned according to the design.Handover: Ensure proper communication and handover of outstanding tasks between shifts and day-shift teams.Equipment Maintenance:Service and maintain equipment as required, using relevant job cards to achieve optimal functionality within the section and maintain cost-effectiveness.The Work: Key Outputs and Accountabilities:Read equipment drawings to enable proper servicing and functioning and mark all pieces and equipment when working and when completed to alleviate technical queries.Execute work according to Operating Model standards and procedures.Complete job cards thoroughly and return them on time.Keep all toolboxes and tools in clean and sound condition.Brazing, Soldering, and Gouging:Clean the area before brazing and soldering.Consider the effects of temperature and time on the quality of the end product.Comply with all procedures to ensure safety and optimal results.Conduct gouging according to correct procedures and based on the necessary precautions to ensure that the process is conducted safely and efficiently.Assistance and Practices:Assist supervisor and co-workers when required within company policies, procedures, and guidelines to enhance teamwork objectives.Advise on all maintenance-related matters and tactics to concerned parties proactively aligned with best practices and within agreed-upon timeframes to avoid possible problems and uplift the competence base.Qualifications: Grade 12 Certificate / N3 TechnicalTrade Certificate as a PlaterSA Drivers LicenceTechnical Knowledge: 2 Years' operational experience as a Plater/Boilermaker.Safety standardsCompany Policies and ProceduresLock-out proceduresThis role is in the Engineering & Maintenance (ENG) department on a band J4 level reporting to the Engineering Supervisor Lab Maintenance.
