Job DescriptionKey tasks of the role are: Geotechnical data collection and reporting on groundwater, pit wall stability, slope analysis.Hazard identification and risk rating surveys.Identify, review, and recommend management systems, procedures, and techniques for reducing or eliminating rockfall hazards.Geotechnical logging from surface drilling exploration programme boreholes and quality assurance checks data into the database.Geotechnical input to reserve losses and dilution.Accident investigation and associated reporting.Mapping of geological structures for geotechnical/rock engineering and mine design purposes.Mine design and layouts.Input into mining layouts concerning slope performance and advice on rock engineering requirements.Post-blast assessment, catchment capacity and reporting.Stop the workplace if unsafe.Assessment of rock mass characteristics and conditions.Observation of adherence to support standards and quality.Slope stability monitoring in open pit operations.Benchmarking the state of rock engineering practice about established best practices (technology).Observation of rock mass conditions.Reporting on observations to the line and technical discipline head.Assist with the training of mine personnel in Strata Control principles with an emphasis on the identification of hazardous geological features.Input observations into the appropriate database.This role is at a band 6 level reporting to the Chief Rock Engineer. QualificationsBachelor's degree in mining engineering, geology, rock mechanics or other relevant discipline.Chamber of Mines Rock Mechanics Certificate (for Open Pit) (required)Chamber of Mines Rock Mechanics Certificate for Metalliferous Mines/Coal/Massive will only be considered if experienced with over 2 years at an open pit/open cast mine.Experience, Knowledge and Skills 5 years' experience in mining; rock engineering or strata control.Demonstrated ability to meet technical and responsibility requirements of the legal appointment.Member of professional body (SANIRE).Additional InformationWho We Are We aim to lead the industry by pursuing ever safer and more responsible ways of working, demonstrating integrity and showing care and respect for people and the planet.
