Job Title: Packaging Technologist – North WestThis is a fantastic, varied role for someone who is interested in joining a busy, passionate & driven team and who loves to understand what goes inside all Unilever's great products.Main Job Purpose:The primary function of this position is to drive the capability quality improvement program of the customer packaging team in partnership with Supply Chain.Be the primary interface of the global logistics network to identify where (and when) R&D support is required to build the foundation of quality aspects of customer packaging (e.g. design requirements to support automated warehouses, customized test methods for specific channel solutions, new packaging action standards, etc).The position will play a role in developing customer(s) insights and developments, needs, requirements and opportunities to feed the customer packaging funnel under handling & distribution work stream.Directly act for preventive actions during the design and innovation process to continuously reduce the current quality key performance indicators for secondary packaging and pallets.Coordinate the implementation of relevant standards, design guidelines, best practices in R&D globally and regionally to guarantee that customer packaging quality aspects are fully embedded into category innovation (including global trainings and audit process).Support the development or updates of CRQS, Golden Rules taking into account the R&D perspective and alignment with Supply Chain teams (Quality, Logistics etc).Be in charge of European Customer Packaging Quality Projects and global coordination of projects and counterparts around LatAm and NA (e.g. improvement under picking operations).The position will interface with internal partners such as Category Packaging Teams, Supply Chain, Procurement, Manufacturing and Global Customer Packaging teams.This position will design solutions and prove performance, value and customer impact to serve as proof of principle for categories to implement it into the innovation funnel.The position will involve engaging key suppliers to lead work that drives value into the company.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Manage assigned Package Development projects, with minimal guidance, working with Supply Chain and Customer teams to meet objectives and timings.Provide packaging solution options, performance improvements, that are proven and ready for deploy/execution globally.Provide technical input to solution designs, materials, and manufacturing focused on performance improvement of the end-to-end process.Develop and obtain information from different countries to develop solutions that can be adaptable in multiple markets with minimal interference or re-work.Deliver and lead effectively in a cross-functional team environment by working with global and regional teams: supply chain, procurement, customer, suppliers.Role requires working in a global environment with team members in different locations and time zones.ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:Extensive experience in Package Development and/or Engineering or related Supply Chain experience.Experience working with distribution channels and/or primary packaging development is preferred.Must demonstrate understanding of package development process and engineering principles.Must have operable computer software skills: Word processing (Word), Spreadsheets (Excel), Presentations (PowerPoint), email (Outlook).Fluent / Native English speaker.Effective verbal & written communication skills including ability to make presentations, summaries for higher level of the organization.Sound experience, knowledge and technical competence in paperboard and corrugated secondary packaging with understanding of the logistical environment.Supply Chain, procurement, knowledge related to packaging structure and packing cost drivers.Ability with palletization systems (e.g. Cape, Max Load Tops, etc).Strong knowledge of specification management (InterSpec, SAP relationship).
