DescriptionSagen Advisory Recruitment Company seeks a Professional Accountant PA(SA) to join our client's dynamic educational development company, based in Century City, Cape Town.As the Accountant / Senior Bookkeeper for our client's group of pre-primary schools, you will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with all accounting regulations.
You will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial operations, including bookkeeping, financial reporting, and payroll processing while providing guidance and support to junior bookkeeping staff.
Key Responsibilities:Financial RecordkeepingMaintain and manage accurate financial records for all pre-primary schools within the group, including ledgers, journals, and financial statements.Reconcile bank statements and verify discrepancies promptly.Ensure all transactions are recorded in compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.Accounts Payable and ReceivableOversee accounts payable processes, ensuring timely payments to suppliers and vendors.Manage accounts receivable, including invoicing, tracking payments, and following up on overdue accounts.Payroll ManagementProcess payrolls for all employees accurately and on time, ensuring compliance with tax regulations and labour laws.Maintain employee records and manage related documentation.Financial ReportingPrepare monthly financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements for review by management.Assist in the annual budgeting process and monitor expenditures against the budget.Audit PreparationAssist with preparing for internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and supporting information.Address audit inquiries and implement recommendations for process improvements.Team Support and OversightSupervise and guide junior bookkeeping staff, ensuring they follow best practices and assist in their professional development.Collaborate with the finance team to streamline processes and improve efficiency.Compliance and Best PracticesEnsure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and policies.Stay updated with changes in accounting standards, tax laws, and financial regulations that may impact the organization.Qualifications:Education: A Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.Registration: SAIPA Qualified and Registered - PA(SA)Experience: Minimum of 5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience (educational setting is advantageous).Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software e.g., Xero, Dext, Syft, Sage, and Microsoft Office Suite as well as Google WorkspaceCertifications: Relevant certifications e.g., Certified Bookkeeper, CPA.Skills:Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills with a keen eye for detail to ensure accuracy and compliance.Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze financial data and generate insightful reports.Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with staff and stakeholders effectively.Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving abilities to address accounting issues and improve processes.Working Conditions:This position may require occasional overtime during peak financial periods, such as month-end and year-end closing.The role is office-based.Additional Requirements:Must be fully literate in English and AfrikaansLive close to, or within a 25km radius of Century City, Western Cape.Reliable transport to Century City, Western CapeSalary: R25 000 - R30 000 per month depending on qualifications and experience.
