Area/ Location: Kempton ParkOverview:We are seeking a highly skilled Operations Manager to lead and oversee the logistics operations for our client, specializing in chemical transportation.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in chemical logistics, including safe handling, storage, and transportation protocols.
In addition, a comprehensive understanding of ISO standards, warehouse management, and distribution processes is required.
This position also demands strong leadership, with an ability to handle industrial relations and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.Key Responsibilities:Chemical Logistics Management:Develop and implement strategies for the safe handling, storage, and transportation of chemicals, in accordance with industry regulations and best practices.Coordinate with suppliers, carriers, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with hazardous materials transportation guidelines.Monitor inventory levels, oversee stock rotation, and implement quality control measures to safeguard product integrity.Warehouse Operations:Oversee all aspects of warehouse operations, including inventory management, order fulfilment, and facility maintenance.Optimize warehouse layout and workflow to maximize efficiency and reduce operational costs.Implement safety protocols to mitigate risks associated with chemical storage and handling.Distribution Management:Coordinate transportation schedules and routes for timely delivery of products.Collaborate with distribution partners to improve logistics processes and delivery performance.Analyse distribution data to identify opportunities for operational improvements and cost savings.ISO Standards Compliance:Ensure adherence to ISO standards related to logistics and chemical handling.Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess compliance and identify areas for improvement.Industrial Relations:Act as a liaison between management and employees, addressing grievances, disputes, and disciplinary matters.Provide guidance to supervisors and team leaders on handling employee relations matters.Ensure compliance with labour laws and company policies regarding employee conduct and disciplinary procedures.Administration & Reporting:Oversee record-keeping, reporting, and documentation related to logistics operations.Manage budgets, expenses, and financial targets to ensure cost-effective operations.Collaborate with procurement and finance teams to align logistics operations with business objectives.Required Qualifications & Experience:Tertiary Education: Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field (Advanced degree preferred).Experience: Minimum of 5 years managerial experience in a chemical logistics environment (warehousing and distribution).ISO Knowledge: Deep understanding of safety systems and ISO 45001, 9001, and 14001 standards.Warehouse Expertise: Above-average knowledge of warehousing, inventory control, and distribution.Communication Skills: Strong command of the English language with excellent communication skills.Leadership & IR/HR Skills: Strong industrial relations (IR) and human resources (HR) skills, with proven experience in managing disciplinary matters.Analytical Mindset: Ability to interpret data and identify opportunities for process improvements.Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail and high standards of accuracy.Flexibility: Willingness to work after hours as needed.Vehicle and Equipment Knowledge: Basic understanding of vehicle and equipment maintenance.Key Attributes:Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and drive results within a fast-paced environment.Assertiveness: Strong assertive skills with the ability to apply them effectively in the work environment.Problem-Solving: Ability to handle complex logistical issues and find innovative solutions.
