Description: The University of Toronto invites qualified candidates to apply for an Operating Engineer Trainee position in our Utilities and Building Operations Division, Facilities and Services Department.
The successful Trainee will gain valuable experience in the operation and maintenance of our boiler plant and HVAC systems in various buildings on the St. George Campus. This experience can be used to achieve the requirements of a Fourth (4th) Class Operating Engineer Certification of Qualification through the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA).
The term of this training program is up to 12 months (approximately 6 months spent in the central steam plant and 6 months in buildings operations). Upon successful completion of the program, if a vacancy for a full-time position is available, the Trainee may apply.
This position is part of the UNIFOR, Local 2003 union and the successful candidate will be required to join this union.
QUALIFICATIONS Education:
Grade 12 diploma (or equivalent and has successfully passed all TSSA exams for a Fourth (4th) Class Operating Engineer Certification for the Province of Ontario). Proof of passing these exams is required to be submitted with your application.
Experience:
Ability to demonstrate above-average mechanical aptitude. Basic electrical knowledge would be an asset.
Other:
Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing; be proficient in Microsoft Outlook email, Excel, and Word and have basic keyboarding skills.
