Job Purpose The New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) is part of Staffing South Africa's Universities Framework (SSAUF), which aims to address challenges in the South African Higher Education system. This programme involves recruiting capable scholars as new academics while meeting staff equity targets, with preference given to black and/or women South African citizens.
Eligibility Criteria: Show interest in becoming an academicBe 40 years or younger70% pass mark for Master's degreeEvidence of eligibility for post-graduate study at doctoral levelWillingness to commit to placement at the appointing university for the full 6 years of the programmeThe purpose of this post is to support the faculty and department in achieving academic and research objectives, including teaching, research and innovation, curriculum development, work integrated learning, and service-learning activities.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience A Master's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field with a 70% pass markApplicants must be South African citizens who are 40 years or youngerRecommendations At least one (1) year of experience in teaching at the tertiary levelImportant Notice If not yet registered for a Doctoral degree, the successful candidate must commit to registering for a Doctoral degree within 3 months of taking up the nGAP appointment and to completing the Doctorate within 5 years of appointment.
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities Participation in all components of the nGAP development programme during the first six (6) years of employmentLecture at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the IT disciplineParticipate in academic development and administrationParticipate in curriculum and programme developmentParticipate in Quality Assurance ActivitiesParticipate in research activitiesAssist students with projects and productionsContribute to coordination of student projects and productionsContribute to departmental projects and productionsContribute to departmental WIL and service-learning projects and activitiesDevelop and maintain linkages with industry and professional bodiesSupervise and mentor both undergraduate and postgraduate studentsAssist with marketing and recruitment activitiesPerform other academic functions as required by the Head of DepartmentGeneral Information Closing Date: 01 December 2024
