Job Purpose
New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP)
The Staffing South Africa's Universities Framework (SSAUF) is a national and sector response towards addressing challenges in the South African Higher Education system in respect of size, composition and capacity of its academic staff.
The SSAUF intends to identify and nurture academic talent early in the academic development trajectory, and to support newly recruited academics to develop teaching expertise; develop research skills, including scientific publication skills.
The new generation of academics' programme (nGAP), comprising one element of the SSAUF, involves the recruitment of highly capable scholars as new academics.
Appointment within the nGAP programme will be made such that staff equity targets are met, with preference to black and/or women South African citizens.
To be eligible for selection for an nGap post, applicants must meet the following criteria, in addition to meeting the minimum criteria specified for the post.
• Show interest in becoming an academic
• Be 40 years or younger
• Candidates must have a 70% pass mark for his/her Masters degree
• Show evidence of eligibility to undertake post-graduate study at doctoral level or post-doctoral programme.
• Be willing to commit to placement at the appointing university for the full 6 years of the programme
The purpose of this post is to support the faculty and department in pursuit of its academic and research objectives which include teaching according to a set syllabus; undertake research and innovation; contribute to curriculum development and design; engage in work integrated learning, and develop service-learning activities
The successful candidate will be developed to be a future academic in the Department of Architectural Technology & Interior Design
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
A Master's Degree in Architecture or Architectural Technology with a 70% pass markApplicants must be South African citizens who are 40 years or youngerRecommendations At least two (2) years' experience in teaching Architecture/Architectural Technology at Tertiary levelAt least three (3) years' industry experience in in an Architectural EnvironmentEligible to register with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession as Professional ArchitectImportant Notice
If not yet registered for a Doctoral degree, the successful candidate must commit to registering for a Doctoral degree within 3 months of taking up the nGap appointment and to completing the Doctorate within 5 years of appointment.
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
