An exciting opportunity has come up for a Mechanical Engineer to join a dynamic forestry equipment company in George.The role is perfect for someone passionate about technology development, who thrives under pressure and enjoys overcoming challenges in a collaborative and fast paced environment.Local and international travel will be required.RequirementsBSc or BEng in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics EngineeringPostgraduate qualification is advantageousMinimum of 5 years experience in the design and development of complex, multi-disciplinary systemsDesign experience in forestry and / or agricultural equipment would be an advantageExtensive experience on Autodesk InventorProven track record in the development and manufacturing of specialised engineering projects in a light fabrication manufacturing environment with an excellent grasp of weldingExperience of conceptual and detailed design of equipment, sub-components, machined components, sheet metal design, weldments and assembliesAbility to generate detailed manufacturing drawings, BOMS and assembly instructionsStrong project management skills with a proven ability to deliver complex engineering projects on time and in budgetKey ResponsibilitiesProduct Design, Development and Manufacturing: Participating in concept design development, design, build, and test mechanical systems for forestry equipment, focusing on performance to specification, manufacturability, reliability, and cost-efficiency.Documentation: Produce detailed engineering documentation, including CAD models (Autodesk Inventor), technical drawings, BOMs, project reports, quality documentation, specifications, etc.Collaboration: Work closely with partner companies and cross-functional teams, including electrical, software, manufacturing, and sales, to ensure that the end product meets both technical and commercial objectives.Project Management: Manage engineering projects from concept through production, ensuring timely delivery while staying within budget.Manufacturing and assembly support: Assist manufacturing and assembly teams and partners in solving technical challenges related to fabrication.Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for product performance enhancements, reliability improvements, and cost reductions through technical innovation.Desired SkillsMechanical Engineering DesignProduct design development and manufacturingProject management
